Amazing.
What a great time for 1st run.
If I hadnt been following the build, I would have been fooled into believing that its a "survivor" rather than a fresh car.
had a close up look today and a quick chat with Tom. he's obviously over the moon with the car and it's lack of 'first time out issues' which is great although not surprising having followed this build. it's a real nice car mate and you deserve the enjoyment you're getting.
neil.
Hi everyone thanks for all the comments and good job john updating the thread while I was busy racing!
It was unbelievable. So many things were perfect. I cannot even believe how far it got.
I am pretty lost for words.
car looked killer - i did come over to tell you how ace it was but you were pretty busy so i left you to it ... looks killer and what a great weekend
I jumped in and took the opportunity to shake your hand while you sat in the pairing lane, hope you didn't mind, but I knew there is little time when you are racing.
Well done :thumbsup2:
Well after the High of the weekend I thought shall I keep this thread going now it’s kind of finished but I guess I can update here after race events ect!
It was a tough week, Thursday night around 8.30 pm it was loaded on the trailer and we all headed home to try and sleep for the early start!
The sleep part didn’t really happen!
We got to the track around 8am unloaded pushed the car to one side while we set up camp for the weekend there was a lot of people having a look over it under it and in it.
we put a rough shock setting in it and then it was soon time to drive the car for the first time more than just around the yard so I done a gentle 2 laps of the pits. Instantly relieved it seemed to feel very good a lot of nerves went away it stoped nice steered nice and was generally pretty comfy!!
Off we went to the startline agreeing that I would foot brake launch to start with and just see how it felt off the start line. Take it as far as I felt comfy with and that was a 11.39 if I remember corrrectly with some moves on the gear change. The best bit about that and possibly the weekend was the reaction time. First ever time in the car .008 on the tree. Let’s hope that’s a sign of things to come.
All seems good refuelled and round for another pass this time on the button with a 3000rpm 2 step.
The tree ram and a .03 reaction time displayed on the boards. That’ll do nicely. Another 11 second pass again with a little move on the change.
Playing with some tyre pressures at the moment as didn’t want to go away from the shock setting just yet.
Back round and another pass another .03 light and a worse move later in the track.
So now we’re getting close to qualifying and figured we would make an adjustment and see how it worked before qualifying unfortunately the lanes shut as I was driving down them so the next run happened to be the first qualifier in the car! Only 3 passes and we’re heading in to qualifying, Huge break out and in to the 10s we dialed 10.99 due to being around the low 11s with me getting out of the throttle on the last passes.
Back out Saturday and a good strong pass that wasn’t full, smooth or my any means perfect but slotted in to P2! I was shocked in fairness. The tree at this point wasn’t worth talking about as i had whatever I was doing Friday!
I managed to hold that until the last qualifier where I got bumped to number 5. Still over the moon being .0 off dial on the test meeting.
We had a bit of a moment on Saturday qualifier where I had to get off the throttle as the car made a move to the centre line. It did grab my attention and the crew as there faces said it all when I returned but we moved on from it and had a good theory on what was happening.
Race Day comes round and this is already crazy to me. Even qualifying wasn’t on my target but to have a race and win!!!
.02 light and the first win in The Pressure Machine!
Round 2 next, again an .05 light amazing for the first time out unfortunately John Gibson came round me right at the stripe. unlucky on my part but we have to move on after a little bit of time beating yourself up but this is the game we play Here.
I was then lucky enough to go and have a test pass! Another good light and cruised through on this pass with a driver malfunction on the shift lol.
Loaded up and took it home in one piece!
Now time to make a few alterations I’m not going to give up on the return system just get but my regulator is causing issues so going to have a little play.
Also think some fuel needs to be taken out as she’s rich.
So on the first meet it’s in the 10s in one bit and god a good reception!
Pic
Well done!
An amazing start!

Thanks not sure why some work fine and some decide to come out wrong
Awesome, love the paintwork also the barbers pole prop. Very neat
G
Thanks! All just for a laugh really then thought I best put a window in the floor so it can be seen!
The Austin is parked up on stands at the moment, battery on trickle charge when I’m at the workshop.
I’ve been having a tidy up around the workshop as since Thursday night before Dragstalgia where tools were downed and the car loaded nothing has been touched.
so much stuff to tidy away and think I need some more cupboards lol
I did get time to pull the front off the Austin and check the fuel line lay out that I am changing to test some theories.
I’ll get some bits on order soon to adjust that, then I’ll be going over the car front to back checking it all out.
I also have a job waiting to get on with soon so that will take up a lot of time too!
onwards and upwards
to help put a face to the name , are you the fella in the driver seat ?:)
Great looking car , magnificent attention to detail and great posts all very inspiring
:lol:Yep that?s me:lol:
Thanks for the kind comments, hopefully it will be good enough to go rounds and get some points to a championship.
Part of that is on the driver too!!
Im Hoping , if possible to run a full season 2026.
Here we go.Attachment 65584

Some of you may not like the BBC but if you were watching the morning news at 8:30 this morning you would have seen some real life stuff. It was the mum and some family of Bebe King, a young girl who was brutally murdered at a Taylor Swift dance class last summer in Southport.
Bebe’s Hive is now going to be raising money for an organisation CIC, to create a safe place for children to grieve as sisters of the victims found it was not easy for them to go to safe spaces to talk to people when needed. This hopefully will grow in to something huge to allow children to process and deal with things starting in the north and hopefully heading south.
This was a thing close to My wife and I so that is why you?ll see the logo on the car.
Simply to raise some awear ness and when people ask, we can share the good of this terrible situation.
This was the easiest way to show you what it was about the link below is to the bbc video.

A nice touch Tom
Thanks Brading.
Theres a few weeks till the next outing but limited time to do things to the car.
Ive been working on an exhaust for a turbo 4 pot but will get round to making some small adjustments on the Austin soon.
First thing will be to make some changes to the fuel system. The AN fittings arrived in the week. Im going to be running a feed to each bowl from a dead head regulator.
The return system will come back when I can get hold of a bigger pump.
I?ll be taking some fuel out of it aswell as it is super rich.
Ideally, a looser converter in this car too but thats not in the budget just yet!
you'll get there mate, it did very well for first time out too :thumbs_up_smiley:
neil.
Cheers, it done very well, it’s certainly going to improve with the fuel adjustment.
In fairness it’s ticked every box that I wanted it to do this year so technically I like to think I’m ahead of the plan lol!!
It's been great too have a gasser build to follow on the forum Tom [emoji1303]
Do you think it's a pressure or volume problem ?
Sent from my SM-A515F using NSRA mobile app
Thanks mate, I will keep the updates / development / race reports coming
It’s a volume issue due to the return as the pumps not big enough for both, and then becomes a pressure problem as the volume isn’t there to maintain the pressure!
Should see low 10s especially when a new converter is in it. That’s long term though!
Im currently bouncing between some custom exhaust fabrication on a pretty cool car in the workshop along with another turbo charged Honda boost / exhaust system so the Austin was parked, today i managed to get an hour or so on the car getting it up in the air all the wheels off ect.
Fuel system is drained and the regulator removed.
The basic regulator was mocked up and the fittings I made a good guess with I think will work ok.
Dash 8 in to the reg and a dash 6 in to each bowl on a dead head regulator.
Ill be going through everything on the car having a good look about now along with a few jobs / things that need looking in to!
Seeing as I have entered the Hot Rod Drags I figured i best get on with the bits that needed doing.
A day off the exhaust system I?m
Making at the mo to spend some time on the Austin.
Dead head regulator fitted on 2 ally spacers to pull it away from the motor plate.
Feed to regulator made
Feed to both carb bowls made
Fuel pressure take off shortened.
Carb stripped to adjust jetting
Headers removed for a clean up of an oil leak that developed at the end of Dragstalgia.
Headers re fitted.
Grabbed some fuel and tested new lines for leaks and adjusted pressure.
Gear box tunnel removed
Fire up and check for any leaks.
Monitor where oil may be coming from that was leaking luckily with the tunnel out I could see the back of the heads and traced the oil leak to the valve cover so that?s great and a simple fix.
Oil nice and hot and dumped it out. It was fresh for Dragstalgia but I figured it won?t do any harm so will get a new load in for the hot rod drags.
Inspection of the underside wiping down some misting of oil that got under the car.
Still need a better look over and nut and bolt check but mostly visually ok.
Next things to do re fill with oil
Sort gear box breather out
Nut and bolt check.
Another warm up valve check and new valve cover gaskets.
Likley to change some jets again in the carb aswell.
Some other odds and sods too
Let?s hope for some dry weather for the Hot Rod Drags.
We should now be able to see a more stable run with good fuelling from start to finish.
Good progress Tom [emoji1303]

I’ve ended up swapping the pump out for my new spare as wasn’t convinced it was in good shape. Also the fittings in and out of the pump were unbelievably small. They came fitted in the pump and I never checked I just tightened them up!
In to the lathe to carry out some adjustments and fit the spare pump I had that looked a lot more like a Holley genuine pump over a possible china copy.
I have a feeling my return system would have worked had I of noticed this before!!!
Gearbox pan bolts replaced as I lost one somehere last meeting so just replaced them all with washers ect.
new gear box breather pipe rigged up to test.
pumped some more grease in to the front suspension as now it’s all been used ect
rigged up an air filter on the carb too as some stones weee firing at me on the return road and if there in the scoop there’s one way and that’s in to the carb.
I’ve checked the shifter cable for adjustment too as it was new I figured it wouldn’t hurt to check it.
gear box tunnel is back in now.
A few bits left to do before the hot rod drags but should hopefully have constant stable fuel pressure now.
Really hoping for the dry weather to get some full passes in with no fuel issues and no wandering on the track.
be good to see if we can hit the target ET and mph for the year.
Been busy Tom [emoji1303]
Sent from my SM-A515F using NSRA mobile app
Yes mate, just getting stuff done as the last thing I want it big trouble at the race track. Not that the team can’t handle it but nice to get everything I can get done before.
Hoping it will run better now.
It will soon be winter and then there’s some more time to make any changes that I think it will need.
Well it’s the 2nd and probably last outing for this year at the NSRA Hot Rod Drags at the weekend.
It has come around fast!
cars pretty much back together as much as possible ready for the front to go on and loaded up tomorrow evening.
A few tweaks from the debut but nothing too major so hopefully we get the target hit for this year at the weekend.
weather is looking hit and miss but recently has changed to Good Friday and Saturday.
I have my app set to a santapod and it’s pretty accurate when we are super gas racing so I’ll think on the positive side
Good racing Tom, i'll be rwyb on friday maybe saturday too, call pass the gasser pits at sometime too see you :thumbs_up_smiley:
Good luck with weather and racing.
G
At the end of The Gasser Circus racing year an awards night takes Place, the pick shows my award, as I always say everything is alright.
It didn?t go perfectly but finally got our finger on one of the issues.
A long day Friday digging down a rabbit hole on the carb changes that I thought I had done wrong but long story short it turned out to be a pump issue aswell as needing more RPM to be where I want it off the start line!
Positives 10.72 with a good mph of 126.9.
Not good enough for a 16 car ladder but still good..
anti balloon plate would be good.
Get the fuel better as it?s rich as Ya like. Seen bigger jets in 900 hp big blocks lol
Alright!
Chris

nice one tom, all that work's starting to pay off then :thumbs_up_smiley:

Nice too meet you and have a quickish chat ...sounds like a plan for the winters work has been formulated [emoji1303]

Cheers ,
Lots of fun was had. Yep great to meet you and chat mate.
yeah Neil. It?s always worth it. Didn?t give up this weekend. Many people probably would have!!
Was fun having a run at dusk! Didn?t plug the front lights in as didn?t think we would be waiting that long!
just a shame it was a little loose past the 1/8.
Cracking pic !!

Definitely one cool picture
Lovely picture, looks like one of Ian Guys paintings.....
We?re not going to get back out untill the season starts again. For 1, time I have A car in that I need to get on with and one waiting to come in. I also would like to get my gmc running and make some changes to the Austin.
So for now it?s parked up and fogit spray applied to try and protect the insides over the winter. I?ll most likely drain the block to be safe on Any coolant issues as we?ve had some super cold winters havent we!
Debelopment in place it just has to wait its turn!
Good idea dude.
My mate Drew has given me something to do over winter.
As the converter is probably going to be a lot looser next year to gain some more RPM on launch I decided to get a mid plate in it to tie this point in to the chassis, and makes it easier to whip the box out if the converter isn?t quite right or we need to pull it out again.
Every now and then I have to take a little look in side again and remember the hard work that some great friends helped me with. Look at that flake.
I?ve been really busy and will post some pics of the latest stuff I?ve done on my other thread.
I need to find some time for the Pressure machine too
The Holy Grail of carbs is on its way for the Austin.
I got lucky with this one as a good friend wanted to help me out with it.
ooh, that's pretty :thumbs_up_smiley:
neil.
Nice :thumbsup2:
Thats a very tasty carb, twin blade?
Fantastic engineering.
G
It?s the 4 barrel version, twin blade is a great idea but it gives you some slightly limiting factors on other uses like throttle stop racing and things like that.
Both Great bits of kit.
I have been around TMC for years and always wanted one myself, Tony had helped me tune the super comp dragster I drove many years ago.
lucky enough a friend wanted me to have one too.
This sucker will be supplying fuel to it now. With the blue top being on the edge of the power limit really and it feeding all the way from the rear appose to the front where it used to be on the pop, so to keep the demand there with out any doubt this has plenty of ?reserve?
This runs a by pass return so I can almost keep my first idea of a return system, this one bypasses at the pump so I can loose the return line down the chassis now and just re run a bigger fuel line to the regulator ect.
some mods needed but all for the better and to try and gain this car to be the best it can be.
holy cow, that carb is a serious work of art, the fuel pump looks a bit of kit too, nice upgrades :thumbs_up_smiley:
Gear box out. Old fuel system out.
motor plate installed - small tweak to be made.
Dummy box installed.
Breather hole in gearbox tapped to 1/8npt. Then dropped the tap and if fell down the dipstick hole!!! Fished out with magnet. Party on.
new -10 fuel line along chassis has been started
New -10 fittings bolted in chassis for hard pipe to connect too.
Pump positioned need to make mounts and flexy lines
Lots more to do aswell like get the actual box in with converter and measure what spacer I need from the flex plate and length of bolts. Slot the holes in the cross member to allow the slightly moved back gear box now it has the mid plate.
hopefully everything stayed straight in the chassis when adding the mid plate if anything moved too much we will soon find out and will just have to make some alterations.
Great work Tom, thanks for making the effort to get stuff posted :thumbs_up_smiley:
Onwards and upwards...
Great stuff. See you at the track no doubt.
