I wish my first foray into welding almost 50 years ago, coincidentally on the same area on a Minor, had looked anything remotely like that, but alas no! An Oxford buzzbox on sheetmetal isn't going to fly!

cheers chris, i've done a bit of welding over the years. dad first taught me to stick weld when i was 12 or 13 (i'm 59 in a few weeks), the first mig he bought was a revelation. before then any panel work was oxy/acetylene and coat hangers (bought in bulk at charity shops, lol). my steel fabricator mate scott said i'd learn to tig quite quickly, it's like gas welding but with an electric 'flame' as it were.

that's the n/s wing fitted. we 'adjusted' the already modified new wing to bolt nicely in place lining up with the new panel fitted the other day. then we marked where fixed nuts needed to be to fit bolts to the remaining holes in the wing. once they were fitted with nutserts the wing went back on for the final time now in place with good gaps all round. there was an area i'd marked that looked like it may need some welding of pinholes, but after grinding back it was all nice and solid. more soon.

before the dash is back in for good there were a couple of bits allan asked for. the rev counter will be sited somewhere else so the 3 holes to the right of the speedo hump are welded shut and one of the speedo mounting brackets behind the dash was missing so a replacement has been made and welded in place. next to refit the dash panel.

that's the 2 unwanted dash holes gone. then we re-cleco'ed it back in place to notice that in order to follow the 'line' of the dash from the screen it would droop down as it went back even with the dash itself tilted up as noted previously. so off it came (again) and after some hammer and dolly work it's now back on again with a much better line. look at how much it originally curved down where we left a bit for the pic, all done now.

over the weekend (between showers) we covered the 'backyard' part of my garden. the dogs didn't like going out in the rain to do their business (would you, lol) so it now stays dry there which is much better. it's fairly big at 6.5m x 2.5m.
