I had a go at the firewall today.

I removed the wing supports, they won't fit once the car is channelled, may be able to re use them somehow.

The firewall had a big box attached, bit of angle grinder noise and now...

That was all I had time for.
Good thing about it is, removable firewall means I can fit new engine and channel body, then alter the firewall to go back in.
What gearbox you thinking of using in the Morris? I'm fitting a zetec to my 32 Sedan, swaying down the route of the MX5 NC7, only down side is its a long box! or by the time you buy everything required for that, it works out the same as a good type 9! :confused:Quote:

Today I didn't really have any garage time, although I did just go into the garage for 5 minutes, to load up some stuff I was taking to my sisters garage.
Then I thought "While I'm out here I'll just put all the tools away and move the engine hoist into position "
I didn't even have work clothes on.
Next thing I knew I'd removed the engine and gearbox, well I had undone the bolts already, and it's only small.

The St170 is small after the SBC, but the little Morris engine makes the St170 look big!
It's waiting for someone to buy it now. (The Morris lump, not the ST170)

Ricey- sorry, I only just saw your post. I'm hoping to get a type 9 in the next month.
The last zetec I had, I used a Mazda RX8 gearbox.
BadAC - yes I'm going to try and keep it all as standard as possible, using the injection. This will hopefully mean that I can get decent economy as well as plenty of performance.
Tim - I like working in old clothes or overalls , then I can get stuck in without worrying about spoiling good clothes. This was an exception.

Today I whizzed down the M2 in the Ruby, took the front axle of the Morris to My Gasser. Nice to see Neil and his workshop and projects. I guess Neil will post, either on here or on his own thread, when he has done the trickery with the axle.

The axle couldn't argue with this serious puller, the hub came straight off.
I made up a way of stopping the shaft turning on the other side and finally got the nut off, and did that side too.
I then needed a special tool, which according to the manual, is available at Mg dealerships. Hmm. I don't think so today.
Made up a puller for the shaft from a flat piece of plate.

Now I could see the halfshafts, it was clear that I can't have them resplined 3 1/4" shorter, they are waisted and don't have enough material to respline. There is a plan B though.
Also Neil let me have a 4 speed gearbox which is donating its bellhousing to the cause. I have arranged to collect a type 9 box which has no bellhousung.

Not thick enough to shorten and respline, so I sent them by courier today to MyGasser who knows someone with a big lathe who can make a good job of cutting and shutting them.

Removed the original axle and prop today, and some tidying of the chassis, removing brake pipes etc. I'm always amazed how stuff unbolts easily from a 1930s car, whereas later stuff just rusts and sizes solid.
Quality of parts back in the day has a lot to do with it Ian. Coming on well mate. [emoji106]

Yes Tim, that is clearly the case.
Today I narrowed the axle casing.
I put a white line (Tippex) all the way across the axle to ensure I line everything correctly when welding it back together.
Then I marked it, and stuffed a rag down each side to prevent too much muck going in.
Then I make the cuts with a thin disc.
I used a couple of bits of angle clamped together to keep the tubes aligned while I put down a tack or 3. Then removed angle and fully weld.

I started making up the brackets to locate the axle on the original Morris leaf springs

After cutting the bit of old box section I offered it up to the axle,........whoops! Too big.
In fact, the Mgb axle is same diameter as rattle can, not tin of tomatoes. It's all highly technical.
Started to make another one with another bit of box, but ran out of time.
Also today been putting unwanted bits for sale in an attempt to keep the working area tidy.
Bloody hell really motoring on there. Looks all good and great read. Nice!

I like the way you always respond to build threads and give us all some encouragement, thanks Tim.
I built my first 2 rods outside in the elements, it's nice to have the luxury of a garage now, even if I only have a few minutes to spare I can usually do something, which helps to keep moving the build forward, and aids me in maintaining my mojo.
