All these piccies are making me lust after another, had thenext one planned in my head for ages :(
Just drove through Carshalton & one was parked up near Mike the Pipe's old workshop, outside the petrol station, custom rear lights, furry interior....ah, took me back!
Flip front with frenched lights I think ?
Just found a 'rough' example on ebay. It may be restorable, and I hope it is, but it has all the typical rot these cars are prone to after many years of neglect. Hopefully somebody will be brave enough to take it on as these cars are rather rare now.
Go check it out
ebay item no. 150330490019
Dave
Here's mine...originally had a Pinto in it, but was positioned wrong (nose up) so the drive train angles were all to ****. Took that out & fitted a built 1500 pre-crossflow, went like a train but the paint was so thick it crazed & looked like El Mirage on a bad day!!
Who wouldn't have liked that reg no on their A???

don't think so, i think the guy i sold it to wrote it of??
Some older Classic Capri's for you all.
The first Grey is Rover powered.
The Pale Green/Yellow was Mouse powered.
The Burnt Orange candy version was Essex V-6 equipped.
and the last two were both small block Ford powered. the latter having a flip-front.
I just saw my new seat covers for mine, they haven't been put on the frames yet, man are they beautiful. I'll post pics soon. The car's on hiatus because my parents are really sick, this might be the longest stretch of time I haven't turned a wrench since I was 16.
Thanks for all the pics fellas, very inspiring.
this is it's first guise
belongs to mad mick medford, has owned it best part of 20 yrs

now under going another rebuild
Just scanned this real sleeper of a Capri, this one was also fitted with an Essex V-6.
Mick Wills from Southamptons old one, ended up owned by the guy with juiced late 50's Impala hearse.
Found this one of mine ,on the 'net , when first on the road .

That is a great custom Capri Kev. One of the best English Ford ever, they look so right. Just needed teardrops maybe !
I was looking on E Bay today ;)
Grey (and pink) Capri UHM 585 was mine for a while,
Built by Roy Pitter.
Best modified car I have ever owned, don't know why but I sold it, to a northern monkey who wrote it off a month later.
Loads of Classic/Capri pics but no scanner at the moment
Kev, I really didn't appreciate how much work had gone into the front end of your Capri.
Look for yourselves.

Mike, notice another grille change in its last incarnation before I sold it . The plan from the start was always 3 different guises from the same car but without going back and redoing expensive stuff, ie the interior was to match all 3 guises. the only bit missing from the final version was that I was going to make the hardtop look like a Carson top.
http://www.nsra.org.uk/newforum/atta...4&d=1237072965
I used a top trim for the lower parts and remade all the sheet steel to mirror the top. Headlight surrounds made from ali sheet from that well known kustom shop ,B&Q . Side light pods were handmade to enable the larger lucas style lights to be fitted. Front bumper is Vauxhall, can't remember if it was Viva HC or Fe Victor with Moon bullet welded to it.In this picture it uses a floating grille made from shower tube with aftermarket bullet accesory ends.
Your car in its old guise in the background Mike.
I and a friend were talking to you at Mersea Madness i think. I could not believe all the changes you made to it. Would have like to see it with a carson top Kev.
Neither could I ! LOL Although I knew what I wanted the finished article to look like it was a sort of natural progression of making it all work together. This thread is seriously making me think about another one.
Here are some pics of my Capri. If anybody recognises or has any info on my car from the past, I would like to here from you, as i have only owned my Capri for a year.

I can soon find out - I'd know that back yard anywhere!
Belongs to a guy near me, always buying and selling Classics/Capris as well as Corsairs.
A mate of mine had a really tidy two door Classic a few years ago.
Two tone grey, lowered with black windows and polished Wolfies.
Don't suppose anyone has any photos of it?
Ive got a mate that has a 2dr classic as his daily and brought a classic capri that has a STEEL bi folding electric steel roof that folds down into the reversed opening boot
Quite clever but just a shame the tin worm has got to it (and it needs a new roof)
2 bad points tho someone has fitted a 6cyl merc DIESEL and he owns it
I'm renovating a LHD Capri here in Southern California. Ford imported just over 1500 of them to boost sales before they launched the Mustang because the Falcon was doing nothing for them. Given the number of sales I guess the Americans didn't are for the American styling too much but I love it. The car has a sad tale that you can read on www.63capri.wordpress.com. I'm desperate for a pair of door latches for the B-Pillars if anyone can help or confirm that other Fords of the period used the same ones. Thanks
Hi Steve, unfortunately ( for you) I let Nads on here ,also in the USA ( Florida I think ? ) have my last door plates, they are a common problem. Have you thought about having them tigged as good ones are few and far between, Classics use the same plate though.
If you need any info on it or details of the club givw me a shout as I'm Tech Adviser to them.
Top plates very rarely go on Classics and Capris unlike other Fords of that period. It's triple skin construction but on my last one the middle skin started to rot and pushed the other 2 apart, that was an interesting repair to do :(
There used to be a guy called Doug Minnota ,somewhere in California that was the rep for America ?
Cfa busa, Kev did let me have his last set, thanks again.
There are no parts in common with American Fords. I think your best bet would be to replace the entire latch with Bear Claws, I reckon it would be a fairly easy job. You could have yer old ones welded up like Kev said.
here is mine some time in the mid eighties it had a two litre pinto with a janspeed turbo ..rolling on minilites i loved that car
Oh man I just remembered a story from about 1979. My mate Wonny, there's a reason he was called that, it's easy to figure out, bought a Consul Capri for 50 quid, it was a rusty flat black dog, but it was kinda cool jacked up in the arse with fat chrome reverse wheels.
Anyway he went on holidays and my friend Ken Lamb and I decided to paint fishscales in the side coves on it without Wonny's permission.
We masked it off with copies of The Burnley Express, not very well, then we sprayed the area white, after that I cut out a scallop pattern from a cereal box and fogged in orange fishscales. And I'll be damned, it looked pretty good. When he got home he liked it and asked if we could do the other side, we told him no, he'd have to do it himself.
cfabusa - I think I have a spare LHS B pillar latch in my garage. I was on the hunt for a good RHS one for ages and I think I got a couple of LHS ones in my quest.
PM me....yours if you want it.
Malc
That reminds me , anyone got pictures of the candy red Capri with the reg KR ,used to be about in the late 80's?
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y24...assiccapri.jpg
Spotted this in Bristol, tracked it down on the new google earth
I built this one about 10 years ago, restored it, hated it, tore it apart fitted 2 litre DOHC complete with injection and 5 speed, bilstiens, discs, rack and pinion, motd it and sold it next day just as it looks in the pic minus the daft bullet holes..... its still in regular use. That pic is from about 4 years ago... I think..
Another DOHC believer!
great motors, way under rated...decent oomph and good milage...beats an old OHC motor hands down, but they got hard to find overnight, !!!
my wife and i had both the capris and the classics many moons ag, in the end we used to break up the classics and used for lots of spares for the shed and unbenowing WE BROKE UP A HOOPER ?TOO, YOUNG FOOLS , WE EVEN WENT FOR A CRUISE, from london to stratford on avon with the consul capri club, we tagged along with em and some of em done moonies at LOL, WHAT A MEMORY, but great day out and lots of fun, in them days we had a council lock up and no lecky so ANNS capri got sold to matt up in staffs and to this day she has never really taken to get driving a car again, she still loves the consul capris to this very day and always drools over their styling and looks when we go to the car shows, up in the loff we have under the cobwebs a classic screen up for grabs, we must ave a sort out of some odd bits to, when time will scan , our photos for this blog, bazza41 and ann
Bazza, we did the cruise to Stratford upon Avon in my mates pink with silver vinyl carson style top .
Hi Bazza and Ann
Did you have a white Pop many years ago? I think we used to see each other around the shows, you stopped once to help when mine broke down on the way to the SSR Great Ape Escape.

russ what ever happened to the old blue consul capri that was in my dads garden for years. did it get scrapped or was any of it used for spares
Hurtz
The remains of the blue Capri went up north to be with the rest of the mangled Classic Capri's "Crash Matt" has aquired/destroyed.
Spoke to him at the swap meet he's building one with a chipped Cosworth in it, FFS he couldn't cope with a Rover V8........... LOL
