i'm not mate, no. i'd have to make a polythene makeshift booth in the garage, then work out extraction etc which in a housing estate it's just not practical. allan just wants the underside done so once it's back on the chassis it can stay there.Quote:

i just bought a bigger lathe so i'm not as restricted on what i can turn. this one will take 3 foot length and 14 inch diameter (over 20 inches with the 'gap bed' bit removed). i need to convince ashley to take me to birmingham with his recovery truck to collect it now :whistle:

that's the underside and inner wings stone chipped then. 2 coats under the floors and 3 on the inner wings as they'll get more road muck etc thrown at them. next is lower it down and do inside the boot, floors and bulkhead. maybe engine bay too, i'll check with allan first.

couldn't lower it yet as once back on all 4 lift arms we can't colour the areas then covered by the rear arms. so today with the stone chip set we gave the back half a couple of coats of the dove grey. so tomorrow it really can go back on the lift to be lowered and stone chipped inside etc.

we got colour on all the underside and inner arch areas today. it'll be back on all 4 lift arms tomorrow ready to lower it and move onto/into the engine bay, inside of boot and interior with the stone chip.

i had a call today saying taxirod ian's mgb halfshafts are narrowed to suit his morris 8 by my machinist freind. on that subject ian's ordered kingpins and bushes for his front axle which are being sent here for the bushes to be fitted and reamed to suit.

the inside and 'some' of the engine bay are now stone chipped. i say some as there really needs to be some filler work done on areas that'll be in plain sight so only the bulkhead and the sections each side as far as the cage were done. we got right up under the dash in the corners so that the bare steel's covered. i thought another advantage of stone chipping both underneath and inside is heat/sound proofing so win win.
if you look ate the right of the 'boot' pic you can see the dove grey on the inner arch area. looks pretty close, but from some angles lighter?

Hopefully turns out to be a cool car on the road that minor! I have always thought they can look quite cool pro street.
do you know who originally built the car or how old it is? Has that already been covered and I’ve missed it
the owner allan built it with his dad tom. it's been a long term project (about 30 years?) with several drivetrain swaps in that time. it's yet to see the road but hopefully what we're doing will re-ignite enough enthusiasm to see it to the end soon.

I'd completely forgotten the rear bumper mounting being a round bar coming through the rear panel, bur not exactly the kind of thing you'd feel the need to remember!

i couldn't consider bolting the body back on the chassis without tidying it up a bit first. some of the chassis had already had a coat of black but like the floors wherever you couldn't get to was either red oxide or bare steel. so after a clean over with the airline and scotchbrite pads it got a couple of coats of black. now when it's bolted to the body it'll look better and is less likely to rust in short order.
oh, and here's a pic of the underside of the body too.
