Sorry to hear about your mum. Take a good break from it all.

Sometimes you have to just walk away and come back to it … sorry to hear yer bad news
Thanks Guys.
I messed with the shims on what I believe was the noisy side (took one our then added one extra) to see if it made any difference -worse in both cases - only run for a few seconds) so put it back as it was and it seemed a little quieter.
I played with the vacuum modulator - then it would not go into top, so got it back to approx where it was - shifts are slightly better but it probably needs a different modulator as it shifts into top later than I would expect and drops out as soon as you lift off.
Anyway, it's gone back to Andy now so I can try to get my head in a better place. It will be at Wheelsday if anyone wants to look at it.
One of my most used items in my kit when doing vehicle inspections!
A bit of an update on Andy's pop, hes driving it as much as he can now to get some miles on the engine. The BEST news is the lifter knock has gone after he has done a few miles on it.
Some other friends of Andy did a bit more work on it, replacing the coil (not sure it needed it though) and the fuel pump had failed which is why it broke down on the way to Wheelsday. It turns out that car SOS had mounted it upside down and the earth wire was barely fixed on https://storage.proboards.com/forum/.../browraise.png
With a new pump fitted and the fuel pressure checked (it was only 1psi!) the regulator was adjusted to 3.5psi and it now runs and starts really well https://storage.proboards.com/forum/...ley/smiley.png
It does smoke a little out of the exhaust when its revved up or under load driving, hopefully this will disappear when we change the break in oil and fit a PCV valve.
Overall the engine is running well now which is a big relief.
There are a few wish list bits Andy wants done, I've ordered a Ford Scorpio handbrake for him (same as on my car) as I know it has a very similar mounting so should swap over fairly easily and it has better leverage with more travel than the chrome 'hot rod' one that is currently fitted, this should hopefully get his handbrake working to an MOT acceptable level.
The seats are the originals, but are way too bouncy - which makes cornering 'interesting' as it's hard to hold the steering one handed (which Andy has to do) while you are bouncing up and down 4" in the seat!! I have some thoughts as to how to calm the seats down, but we may have to think about different seats - Andy did want to keep to the originals but driveability is more important.
None of your pictures are showing ? Is it a jag rear end ? I still had too extend my granada one too get enough grip on those tiny padsc

Oh great - the site went tits up earlier & now has lost all of the picture links :( more history destroyed.
No It's (I Think) an 8" ford rear end.
I had stock style seats in my pop for a while and changed em to bucket seats for that very reason was soooo bouncy
couldn't you just add webbing across the frame with sponge on top covered with your choice of material. that'd do away with the springs.
neil.
Possibly Neil, there are about 6" of springs so maybe not so simple. I'm thinking of packing the springs with foam as a first step..
Hi ya my AC seats are fully sprung as well and very bouncy in stock format, I did just what you said I got hold of some original dunlop pillow foam and used that in the middle springs and some firmer modern foam on the outside springs. Now absolutely comfy.

I mentioned I bought a handbrake for Andy's car, it arrived a couple of days ago. It had to come from Latvia where they still have scrapyards https://storage.proboards.com/forum/...ley/smiley.png
It's a Ford Scorpio handbrake - same as the one in my car. I like them as they have a nice flat double mount and 11 clicks and a long handle so it has good leverage and about 30mm of draw on the cable.
It needs a bit of a scrub but it's in excellent condition.

And stripped down. I like that it also has a discreet handbrake warning lamp switch built in.

And as I have a CNC punch at work it seem rude not to program a new surround clamp plate for the gaiter from 2mm aluminium.

Is it me, or can anybody see the pics ?
Jeez it's hard work uploading images on this forum :(
Asbo - The NSRA forum has somehow disabled remote hosting of photos, so it's stripped the entire thread :(
I can see all the picture okay.
But only those ones I've just posted - the rest of the thread has lost them all :(
