What''s the plan for a windscreen?
I wish you had not asked that Geoff:o
I plan on casting and machining my own screen posts. Just starting on a crucible furnace. There, that's that cat out of the bag:D
Screen will be flat laminated to 1948 spec:no:
Hi Paul,
A good build there mate, and your a very talented guy, looking with much interest, good luck,
Cheers,
Mike C.
Leave it out guys, I'm just a bodger in a shed:o.
You ain't seen this in the flesh yet. I did say a quick cheap build:yes:
Although the quick is disappearing and I have got to spend some money now:eek:
Less progress than I would have liked, weekends are wifey time and also been fitting new radiators in the kitchen.
Any way, back to havin' fun as usual:nsra:
Using my scavenged 40x40 rhs I made up a tail gate for the bed. No latches at the moment due to, ahem, technical incompatabilities.

Next job is to mount one of my collection of pop fuel tanks under the bed. Brackets will be off the bed frame to avoid touching the sacred (5 points) chassis.
very nice bud
Coming on well Paul, nice tailgate
If you want to mount the tank off the chassis Paul, you can weld on localized boxing plates (perfectly acceptable within the 5 points) and then weld the brackets for the tank off them. By `localized` I mean short, about 5" long, sections of plate welded onto the open side of the chassis rail. These short sections are viewed as strengthening, and acceptable by the DVLA `powers that be`, as long as the chassis is not cut or altered from standard in any way. You could fit the same minimal boxing to mount exhaust brackets etc.
This subject was discussed on this forum a couple of years ago when Kev Rooney `Kapri`, asked the DVLA about boxing a chassis. They, the DVLA, said localized boxing (strengthening) was viewed as a safety feature and thereby acceptable. What you mount off the new boxing plates is down to you :)...
Thanks for the input Brian. I am aware of the acceptable modifications but would prefer to not do any if possible on the basis that any poking with a stick can backfire. I will be pushing my luck as it is with the front end I have planned for it.
Regarding the fuel tank, the plan has unraveled already:(, I will have to make from scratch, something I was hoping not to do:no:.
Mike/Steve, thanks for the kind words.
EDIT. Just re-read your post. The chassis is already a fully boxed construction.
Tidy job on that tailgate Paul, that's what I call a good use of scrap mate. Keep it coming.
Cheers. Tim W.
Forgive me for I have sinned. I have not updated for a week.
To be honest there's been nothing to update really. Oh, I could have put some photos of a pop tank not fitting or me cleaning the workshop:eek: but decided the worlds not ready.
Anyhoo, after the tank debacle it was clear that I was going to have to bite the bullet and make one. The standard has an underslung rear which does limit what goes where. Also the cable brakes need to have room to move with the axle. So at the back it is. I made up a simple 8 gallon tank with baffles and modern sender unit.

Pretty basic but it suffices. Hopefully I'll get on better again now.
Neat tank Paul, is it stainless?
Marcel
sweet........
Tank sits in there well Paul, nice tidy job mate.
Cheers. Tim W
Nice job on the tank Paul
Tim, Steve, thanks for the kind words.
The tank survived some enthusiastic pressure testing today, no leaks:party2:
I was hoping to start on putting the battery under the bed as well but there is just not the room. It will have to stay in the engine compartment:(
Seats and door latches next.
