The Morris 8 has its original sunroof, in bits.
But, with the original sunroof on the Ruby working but leaky, I'm favouring the idea of a modern sunroof cut out of something.
Any suggestions?

No suggestions here but wondering if you have headroom to spare. All the mechanism gubbins tends to make them a bit on the thick side.

Those glass mini ones are ''popular'' if you got a similar curve too yours ?

Good point. The original Morris sunroof has a "tray" which takes away a bit of headroom, I could afford another inch or two I guess, no roof chop planned here.

One of those days tAttachment 59588oday when I couldn't do anything right.
Got myself in a pickle trying to raise body higher to give more space underneath to work on chassis. Engine hoist idea was nearly a disaster!

Eventually got it this far.
Also tried to make a map reading light for my work vehicle, must have been the simplest job imaginable, couldn't even get that to work!!
Sold a couple more of the old bits off the Morris.
that looks a much more substantial chassis than the ruby mate.
neil.
Careful there Ian, it's always a worry working on your own in precarious situations mate. Been there, done that and got the new pants [emoji24] Keep it coming.

i've used ford tilt and slide sunroofs on a few cars ian. i just cut the skin off complete with sunroof and cut the car roof to suit the new panel. looking at the original in your pics they're no thicker so headroom shouldn't be an issue.
neil.
Thanks Neil. I'm on the lookout for a donor now.
Today I made a start on welding up the chassis.

I'm welding up these cracks, this is the worst one. Then I'll weld strengthening plates over the repaired areas, and then box the chassis. Most C section chassis have the open side facing inwards, this has the open side facing out.
I cut off the handbrake and the two cross pieces that mount it.
I also decided to remove the steering box, only one bolt

Above pic for my reference later.
When I tried to undo the bolt, the head sheared off.
Attachment 59622
Made a start on drilling it out, needs finishing next time.
The chassis looks to be in good condition considering its age Ian.

I remember way back in the 70s and 80s (when the thought of owning or building my own rod seemed like an impossible dream)
Reading of the ill feeling between rodders and restorers.
With the Morris, I'm selling off the bits I'm not using, and I'm finding most of these guys are not so much against rodders these days. Man coming to collect the engine today offered to help with any pictures or advice as I build the Morris.
Anyway, with the engine gone, it'll create a bit of space for the Type 9 gearbox which arrives Monday
With the engine now gone Ive had over £500 back for parts sold, brings original purchase cost of vehicle to under a grand, great!
I've found that people just like to see the old cars saved ian, either restored or rodded doesn't really matter.

My stainless wheel trims arrived today, so I put them on the wheels which are already to go with new tyres..
A very small step, but still progress!
A bit of bling to boost your enthusiasm Ian, they look good mate.
