neat work mark, great progress.
That spare bit of stainless brake line was just long enough then Mark
Had about 4 ft left over Steve!
Hi Mark,
Looks brilliant, great job :yes:
Cheers,
Mike C.
nice work and dont forget to polish the pipes
Just come across this and read the lot, - great stuff Mark and can't wait to hear it humdinging past me house. Now you're this far in you gotta keep on it and the rooms below the loft will be a safer place!
By the way the local meet is no longer at the Water's Edge, we're looking for a new local for all the motors popping up in the area and will keep you posted. :cheers:
Once again Great job Mark.
I need one of those brake light switches and tee. Any pointers chap.
Those brake lines are VERY straight, no wobbles at all. It looks excellent
Thanks for the positives everyone, Lines are fairly easy to keep straight Jimmy, the trick is having the proper tools to put the bends into them.
Just a little update tonight, now I'm back at work (and also fixing the bathroom) there is less time to do car stuff.
Still painting engine bits (which are now finished) but I did get round to making the aluminium spacer bars to locate the brake reservoir lines. These will be painted silver soon.

Bathroom repairs and a trip to Real Steel (who were shut?....grrrr......) have used up most of the weekend, but a little car progress was made.
Starter, water pump & balancer are now painted;
http://imagehosting.rodsnsods.co.uk/3450e9e5a2b5415.jpg
And fuel tank came down from the loft for a quick trial fit before I flat & polish it up.
http://imagehosting.rodsnsods.co.uk/3450e9e5a3700f9.jpg
Distributor rebuilt and filled with MSD uprated goodness :)
http://imagehosting.rodsnsods.co.uk/3450f1f095b953b.jpg
Which will be connected to more MSD goodness :)
http://imagehosting.rodsnsods.co.uk/3450f1f097c0234.jpg
Also painted the disc & hubs, another job done
http://imagehosting.rodsnsods.co.uk/3450f1f094a9ba0.jpg
and lastly, alternator stripped down, cleaned up with new bearings and all new internals for single wire output. Just need to get it painted now and try to do something with the old chrome fan & pulley – might have them blasted & powder coated.

Mark
Today I only did some small stuff. Rearranged the loft a bit to make parts easier to get hold of (not buried in corners!) and got the alternator primed.
I also indulged myself a bit & fitted the rear trim panel (silver) on to the roof panel. The 3 holes will have LED's fitted for the interior lights.
http://imagehosting.rodsnsods.co.uk/3450f320abce747.jpg
Another indulgence was fitting the gauges into the roof dash panel......mmm......nice :)
http://imagehosting.rodsnsods.co.uk/3450f320acc3331.jpg
She's coming on really well now mark, well worth a little indulgence mate.
Cheers. Tim W.
Ooohh spaghetti! :)

The tidy bit;
http://imagehosting.rodsnsods.co.uk/3450fb019747ac7.jpg
and the scary bit :eek:
http://imagehosting.rodsnsods.co.uk/3450fb0196591ce.jpg
see your getting to the fiddly bit now,post loads of photos as i will be watching as i have got to do the same
Wiring loom has gone on a diet today so now looks a bit thinner;
http://imagehosting.rodsnsods.co.uk/3450fc6408aee5a.jpg
As this lot has been removed!
On the left is wiring I don't need, in the middle is wiring that I might be using and on the right is wiring that I will be using.
http://imagehosting.rodsnsods.co.uk/3450fc64076405f.jpg
And trial fitted back into the roof to see if it's long enough - which some of it is :)
It will all be in tubular shrouding and bolted to the roof when its all done properly.
http://imagehosting.rodsnsods.co.uk/3450fc640979043.jpg
I'm going to make several 'mini looms' for the wiring as most will be routed from the fuse panel directly to a relay panel before going off to the final destinations.
I'm thinking there will be a roof panel loom, steering column switch loom, and maybe another for the engine bay, not finished the planning stages yet.
Mark I was wondering what all the relays were for ??? I take it all your switches are light duty ?
Steve,
I like overkill :whistle: Just feel it's safer for a lot of the circuits. Probably wont use all of the sockets, just put them in as there was room for them and you never know what you might add in the future.
The loom says its man enough for no relays, but I dont trust some of it - electric fan pulls 30A so prefer that on its own circuit.
Yes, using Ford MKIII Cortina column switches, been told they cant handle high loads.
Also makes it easier to extend the loom if it only has to go a few inches to relays, I can then use new wires or splice them easier from there.
I like relays ... u can do all sort of weird things with them :eek:
You might be right Steve, cheap relays have a lot to answer for.
As I said though, Ford stalks are not built for high loads.
Skiing holiday, sale of house falling through, getting kittens, loss of mojo and studying wiring diagrams have all taken their toll on me getting anything done on the pop.
Thought I'd give up on the wiring theory today and flat & polish the rear wings for fitting.
All went quite well untill disaster struck, I chipped the corner off the wing :no::mad: I also polished through to the glass on the edge of the same corner, so I'll have to repaint that bit after some more filler work :(
Not happy with the finish, still some scratches not polished out so I'll re-flat it this week to get rid of them.
I mounted the wing anyway to see how it all looked, it did not fit quite as good as when I built it but it gave in eventually, and I left the heaters on it for an hour for it to relax into the correct shape again.
Damaged corner :(

Shame about the chip Mark, sad to say it may not be the last!. Still looking good though...
each bit done is a bit nearer the end ,i think we all have the chip to do when we put it back together i like to protect the edges with tape when i polish and on fitting stop most but not all.for the areas near the edges i use a snapon 3" air polisher it is one very usefull tool
Yeah, it just caught the edge of the workbench while polishing.
Brian, it's about the 4th chip so far.....
Nice,you can start to see how its going to look now.
Re the chip,if you are having wing piping that will be barely noticeable if at all when touched up.
It will have piping, but I'll still know it was there so will be done anyway :)
looks good ,nice work ,on home run :party2:
Finally sussed the worst part of the wiring - hazard warning circuits.
Pretty simple circuits in the end, just getting 15yr old hazard switches & 30 yr old steering stalks to work with modern wiring was the tricky bit.
Mocked it all up in the office to make sure it worked properly.
http://imagehosting.rodsnsods.co.uk/34512a80f44a109.jpg
Circuit diagrams so far, might help other people?

http://imagehosting.rodsnsods.co.uk/34512a8245526f9.jpg
hi mark that looks like you are haveing fun with that i will have this to come
It's not bad really, just kills my eyes studying tiny wiring diagrams and re drawing them all in CAD.
Next job is to get the Mini wipers working with the ford stalk as I fancy adding an aftermarket intermittent wipe relay in as well :)
Got bored of doing theory electrics and got back to the practical stuff.
I wasn't happy with the rear wing that I polished the other day, so I flatted it back again and polished from scratch again. Much better now.
http://imagehosting.rodsnsods.co.uk/34513cefac7a1b5.jpg
Fitted the rear lights, to see how it looked :) still got to repair the chipped corner though.
http://imagehosting.rodsnsods.co.uk/34513cefb4579d0.jpg
The other wing is now also being flatted prior to polishing.
http://imagehosting.rodsnsods.co.uk/34513cefa9ada71.jpg
And hopefully this video will work;
the video works on rodsnsods :yes:
Dunno why it wont work here :(
Just need the + the shortlink
This is what Ian T sent me in a pm very helpfull
To make this work you only need the id of the youtube video - the bit between the &v= and the & - as follows in bold:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rBMM1oOfR30&feature=related
In the advanced view of the thread editor you'll now see a little YouTube button - click that to get the pair of codes, then paste your youtube video id in between the codes so it looks like this.. (obviously with 'Y's instead of 'X's)
[XOUTUBE]rBMM1oOfR30[/XOUTUBE]
Cheers guys, that video is cut in half, uploading the complete one now.
I used the youtube tag in the advanced menu, but it would not work??
Aha!! fixed it now with the full length video :) enjoy!
nice video and the pops coming on well to hope you sort the wireing out soon keep the updates coming
mark you need to stop polishing it and finish building it! there wont be any paint left on it soon :)
Looking good Mark - Keep it coming.
Cheers. Tim W.
Unbelievable shine !
I'd be scared to use it
hi mark you want to try the 3m trizact disc on a DA for the final rub down before you polish they are the nuts and you get a really good finish ,one tip is to put a soft pad on the DA ,
Ah, but I don't own a DA.
The blocks I have work well, just had a tiny bit of grit in this one and where sandpaper was a bit short it was scratching the paint.
Off out to garage to do a bit more now, but it's kin cold out there!
Spill plates are polished up and fitted;
http://imagehosting.rodsnsods.co.uk/345142600439578.jpg
And starting on the second rear wing - bedtime stopped progress - this is just the initial cut.
http://imagehosting.rodsnsods.co.uk/345142600545385.jpg
And Blackpop garage welcomes it's newest arrival :)
http://imagehosting.rodsnsods.co.uk/3451426006b41cf.jpg
Uh-oh! been cruising Summit site last night, seem to have a big hole in bank account now :D
Second rear wing now fully polished and fitted to the car. Lights also fitted.
http://imagehosting.rodsnsods.co.uk/3451462b7c8426e.jpg
Another view, needs front end on as rear looks very wide without it!
http://imagehosting.rodsnsods.co.uk/3451462b7d9cdc9.jpg
And the view I had when bolting on the rear wheel arch, I thought it looked cool :yes:
http://imagehosting.rodsnsods.co.uk/3451462b7e67b12.jpg
looking good shag ,watch low bridges:D
It's all looking good Mark, keep at it mate
More parts get polished, bootlid gets flatted
http://imagehosting.rodsnsods.co.uk/34514f84f320577.jpg
and a few hours later looks like this;
http://imagehosting.rodsnsods.co.uk/34514f84f43eb05.jpg
very nice finish hope to be doing the same soon,keep the photos coming
Amazing shine on that boot lid Mark. Keep it coming.
Cheers. Tim W
Picked up some parts tonight that Wayne (Oddrods.co.uk) had modified for me.
Wiper spindles as std were too short for how I had modified them, so Wayne punched out the original spindles and machined up some new stainless ones and tig'd them back in.
http://imagehosting.rodsnsods.co.uk/345150df8677c26.jpg
After a small trim they now fit the wipers properly :)
http://imagehosting.rodsnsods.co.uk/345150df8750be0.jpg
Also polished up the column top panel, loosely assembled here;
http://imagehosting.rodsnsods.co.uk/345150df8835a13.jpg
After going to wheels Day and picking up some bits for the car (and some cut price polish :) ) I sorted out the bits for the bootlid.
Inner locks, hinge mounts, strap mounts and trim panel are now fitted;
http://imagehosting.rodsnsods.co.uk/345155fb9b6a1f2.jpg
Also fitted the lock and the third brake lamp/number plate lamp and here it is resting in place on the car.
http://imagehosting.rodsnsods.co.uk/345155fbad233b7.jpg
coming on in leaps and bounds .so whats next on the list ,looking forward to it any way
Waiting on parts to arrive from the US then engine & box will go into machine shop.
When they are rebuilt it should start to go together quite fast hopefully.
Been let down badly with rear half shafts, so will need to re-order them so I'm 2 months behind on finishing the rear axle which is a big pain.
will be worth it when its done
Looking great
You really have been cracking on with it, your build thread has been a joy to follow. [:D]
Can't wait to see what's next ..... :yes:
Not a lot of progress to report form the Easter weekend as the house boiler and the cooker both decided to play up so had to strip & repair both of those first :(
Anywaaay.........
Did get into garage and made up some ally mounts for the seat harness controllers (one per side) which got painted after this pic was taken. Then faffed around chucking a lot of rubbish out of the garage & tidying up so got a cleaner workplace. Also sorted the wiring loom into clearer bunches ready to get the loom extended this week now I have worked out most of the extra circuitry I will be using and what route it will take around the car.
Harness controller on the bracket;
http://imagehosting.rodsnsods.co.uk/34515b476516682.jpg
ohhhhh...... i thought when i first read it 'why do the seatbelts have controllers?' but they're 'wiring' harness controllers. :whistle: don't mind me. superb finish you've got there. :)
Cheeky! :) (had to re-read my post to check though!)
To explain, the controllers allow the harness to function like a std inertia reel belt on the top 2 belts, but if the power is cut via ign (or a manual switch) they lock up solid like a full harness. They also lock up under accelleration/decelleration/cornering.
so i really am that dumb then :yes: i wasn't joking, i thought they were to do with the wiring harness not the 'seat belt' type harness. doh! clever bit of kit fella. :cool:
Well f***, how long since any progress :(
Friend in the USA who was supposed to be helping me ship parts has not shipped any of them after 4 weeks so ****ed off about that, also my half shafts ordered back in December still haven't arrived so ****ed off about that too.
Kinda stuck without these bits and now lost my place at the machine shop too :(
Major mojo killer.
Also finally sold house (tomorrow) so had to spend loads of time emptying and cleaning it for the new owners so just no garage time at present.
I have got my wiring loom professionally extended, and a lovely job they did on it too, spiral wound splices in glued sleeves - very nice and free too :D
A little bit of progress is the bonnet scoop, flatted it down and it's now half way through the polishing stages.
http://imagehosting.rodsnsods.co.uk/345181944f31e02.jpg
Its really looking good Mark, you must be well pleased with the finish. Hope you don't mind me asking but where did you get the harness controllers ? It sounds like a neat idea
Hi Marcel,
Seat harness bits are a package from Safetydevices.com though I'm not sure you can get them from them now?
I couldn't find any either, so went for normal retractors on a 3 point harness, they dial in to any angle

Just got the news that Fedex had my bit & had ransomed my friend for more money. He's got them back now & is sending with USPS tomorrow, hurray!
Scoop now finished :)
http://imagehosting.rodsnsods.co.uk/345186ce5331c00.jpg
looks great mark.
Just got the news that my half shafts from Strange are finally at the shippers in New York so I should get them next week - yay! :) (only took since end December :eek: )
In the meantime I got around to painting a few last parts I'd missed/not got round to;
Wheelie bar spreader;
http://imagehosting.rodsnsods.co.uk/3451897ee81754a.jpg
Brake pipe supports & footrest support bar;
http://imagehosting.rodsnsods.co.uk/3451897ee77481c.jpg
last inner wing plate - needed re-doing;

Off to Bridlington (brought up there with grandparents) for 50th birthday this weekend so no progress till next week now.
looking good.
saga rodder then soon!!!
Yeah, officially on old git in a couple of days!
