agreed but unfortunately not, it's the stock manual under floor setup but with a wilwood dual circuit master. i can always add a servo or two if needed but the car's light and it's only a pinto so we'll see.

seats update...... the jag' xf black leather seats i got locally for £90 i've swapped for front and rear red bench seats from the mk2 zephyr in for welding. fitting jag seats to the zephyr is now added to the job list. next as the zephyr rear bench is 3" too wide for the nash i've sold then to a mate who's working on a chopped 46 chevy coupe for £200 (£110 profit, keep up). tomorrow i'll be collection a set of black leather seats from an alfa romeo 147 that are only 6 miles from me for £100. so i end up with a nice set of seats and £10 up on the whole deal, result :thumbsup2:. you gotta love a deal, lol.

Not a bad result Neil, nice seats and money for chips on the way home. [emoji106]

yes mate, nice flat base manual runners too which is a bonus. strange they're heated but have manual movement, i'll probably wire the heated bit up though as it's likely to get used all round.
i forgot to say, when i took the pics outside the other day it pretty much made my mind up that i like it..... a lot :thumbsup2:

sooo...... ash came round for dawn to cut his hair this afternoon so i roped him in to dig the holden v8 out so we could test fire it. i bought it as a good runner from a member here and sure enough (once i took the leads off the cap and put them in the right order) it fired right up. it revs good and idles sweet so it's good to go. it came with a 4-2 barrel adapter and an old holley 2 barrel loosely sat on it. i bought a used small 4 barrel holley, again off a member here and although it needs setting up (rear floats too high so flooding there) and the accellerator pump lever doesn't sit over the cam so needs modifying it seems good too. with an ebay spreadbore to squarebore adapter it bolted on a treat.
the thing is now i've confirmed the engine runs good it'd be rude not to use it in the nash. the pinto will make as much or more than the holden engine as whichever i use the other will be sold. i'll see if the capri 5 speed box will adapt to the v8, if not i'll change the rear axle for the capri atlas axle and use the holden 4 speed. the nash axle is 4.11 ratio which is ok with the o/d 5 speed but with the non o/d 4 speed the capri axle's 3.75 ratio will be better suited.
neil.
ps anyone need a 2.0 pinto engine? i have a brand new twin choke carb and a 4 branch manifold for it. and i'll throw in 2 4 speed boxes too. £600 ono.
Am I not keeping up... I thought you'd sold the Holden V8?

well tim.....
i had an email from ebay telling me the payment had been cleared and sent to my bank. i checked and the greedy bu66ers had taken just over £120 in fees!!! F that!!! so i refunded the payment and spoke to the guy and agreed i'd get it running, send a video to him and then sort the money direct (whilst splitting the ebay fees saving us both £60 ish, fairs fair) after dawn and me got back from gt yarmouth at the weekend (just gone). i got it running as i said and text him asking what 'medium' should i use to send the video? it ran sweet i said and wasn't worried if he changed his mind as i'd use it and sell the pinto instead. he said that a mate had offered him a rebuilt 3.9 rover so didn't need the holden engine now.
so..... that's the story so far, lol.
neil.
update on the new fence out the back........ it's puppy proof :thumbsup2:. they're too big to fit under or through it so it was worth the time to do it. oh, and dawn's happy which makes it even more worthwhile, lol.

we took the holden box off of the engine so measurements could be compared with the 2.0 type 9 5 speed box i have. as i suspected the input shaft is almost an inch short, 23mm to be exact (yes imperial 'and' metric but i use whichever side of the tape looks closest, lol). i checked input shaft lengths (4 cyl' are shorter than v6/diesel) online and burton do a 16mm spacer to fit between the box and bellhousing which along with trimming a bit off of the spigot part of the shaft will allow the v6/diesel box to fit a 4 cyl' bellhousing and engine. but i digress and the point is the longer shaft box will work for me. i rang a mate who's work i've done for years as i knew he wanted to fit a 5 speed to his 2.0 cortina. so that's sold to fund a long shaft box and he wants it fitted over the winter too so we're both happy.
neil.
Good result from a negative situation Neil. Best of luck on the long shaft hunt.

yes mate, you have to keep your glass half full.
i've made an offer on a long shaft box and asked the guy if he'll wrap and courier it if i pay extra up front. i'm in kent and he's in chepstow just over the severn bridge, a round trip of 375 miles plus tolls! giving him an extra £50 will save me wasting a day of my life and using a lot of diesel.

so after a little haggle too and fro we agreed on £225 including delivery. it's a 2.8 capri box so ideal for what i need.

the zephyr's owner came round with my mate today and stripped all the glass from the car. it'll save the glass from grinder rash or other damage while the body repairs are done and it'd have to come out anyway when they do body prep and paint it. now we can get on with the mammoth weldathon. they're back in a fortnight to remove the engine and box as it's easier here than in his garage at home.

Looking forward to seeing the progress Neil.

it needs (as always) a lot more welding than at first appeared. once the filler was knocked/dug out several repair patches fell out too, only being held there by said filler which wasn't good. oh well, it's only metal and i got some sheets of 1mm zintec in to sort it properly so it'll get done.

last night i ordered a pair of mk3/4 lwb transit rear arches for the nash. i've used them before on other projects and like the fairly radiused shape while being big enough for larger wheels. i will probably only use the actual arch shaped bit itself but they were cheap at only £40 so i had to have them. i'm not keen on the stock nash swept back arch shape so these will cure that as well as doing away with the beaten to death passengers arch. plus trying to make/match one from scratch to be the same as the good drivers side would be tough. there's enough to do replacing the sections of pass' side 1/4 panel as it is. i'm trying to get as much ready parts wise as possible so when we start on it it'll be a quick build, fingers crossed.
neil.
add to the purchase list a new 3 row ally rad for a 70's v8 bronco off ebay for only £50.40 inc' post from germany!!! sure it's chinese but isn't most everything these days? what a bargain and the hose fittings are the right way round for the holden v8 too.

the centreline pro stock wheels came off of the zephyr today and the rear tyres were swapped onto the 8" torque thrust II's he's bought along with skinny 165's on the 4" tt II's for the front. the tyres from the tt's will be fitted to the new smoothie steels we got painted cream today. these are going on a devon truck in place of the tt's. i do like a convoluted deal, lol.
neil.
oh, and the zephyr's jag axle flanges will need to be redrilled to match the 4.5" front pcd as all the tt's are ford pattern. another job, doh!

so today i thought we'd get a start on a wheel banding 'jig'. i decided it would be another use for my tyre changing machine. so we removed the cast bit that feeds the tyre on or off of the wheel, measured the shaft and looked for something to connect to the shaft that a bracket could be welded to holding a grinder. we found a pair of old bmx stunt pegs from one of the kids old bikes, with just a quick spin on the lathe to open them to size. then a couple of scraps and bent flat bar and that parts done. just need to weld a similar bracket to the other stunt peg so the mig torch can be clamped in place. we had to try part 1 so i have here a set of cortina 'gl' steels which will probably sell easier if they're 7x13 not 5 1/2x13. the grinder fixture works a treat, hold the tyre machine 'rotate' pedal down and swing the arm/grinder in against the wheel. that worked a treat with the front part releasing in short order. next is roll a 1 1/2" 'band' and weld it all back together (after the torch fixture is made of course).
neil.
Nice one Neil, I love a bit of re-using something like this. [emoji106]
Good luck with the banding.

today we made the mig torch holder. upon testing it's nice and stable but the tyre changer needs an adjustable speed controller for the motor, it goes way too fast as is. looks like about £15-20 off ebay for one with a 5000w capacity which should be fine.
neil.
Getting there Neil.

so..... ever since i started collecting the airbag parts dawn's said ''why do you want it low when you'll struggle to get in and out with your back''? i guess it's because 'a' i've not done air before and 'b' the plan was for the pinto engine so it'd be a cruiser. i asked her last night if she minded it being low (read 'on the floor') or would she prefer it a bit higher? she said a bit higher so that's 'red rag to a bull' talk and i'll be making a straight tube axle for the front now. well, as it's now getting a v8 with a manual box for the right sound track it won't be all show an no go as it were. she did say a 'bit' higher without specifying how much so it's her fault, that'll be my excuse anyway.
neil.

decision made, the airbag stuff all goes monday. i happen to have 2x 8 1/2x15" and 2x 4x15" slot mags in stock so the wheels are sorted. i'l almost certainly make a profit on the bullitt mustang 18" wheels considering what i paid so that's good too, more build money.

new chassis stands arrived today ready to be modified. they're static caravan ones and like a cross between a chassis stand and a builders acro prop. adjustable from 15-20" (biggest i could find) we'll lift the adjustable bit out and make extenders to drop into the base and receive the adjustable bit for each so we can set them higher. it'll overcome the main shortcoming of my 2 post lift, it's awkward to fit sills (as on the zephyr here at the moment) as the lift's arms get in the way. once on stands the arms can swing out of the way for easy access. plus at that height we can sit on my swivel chair base to work as it's more comfy than standing, lol.

Sounds like a plan Neil.

yes mate, plus at £55 delivered i thought the set of 4 were cheap. they're galvanised too, bonus.

the bronco radiator arrived today for my nash. there will be some quite radical surgery to the radiator support panel to fit it, it's huge. to be fair i did expect it to be big being for a v8 bronco up to 5.8 (351). i'm not expecting any cooling issues with the little holden engine in the summer for sure. still at £50.40 including the post i had to have it, lol. plus it has the capacity to cool a larger engine should i fit one in the future.
they came yesterday and today and removed the engine and box from the zephyr so he can have that back next week after christmas. we started cutting the rot from the o's gutter/roof area too. as always it's worse than it looked, aren't they always . the owner's glad he bought a cheaper car as he could've bought one twice the price that looked ok then be faced with all this 'normal' welding in a year or two anyway. at least once bare metalled and welded this'll be that same price but he knows there's no hidden nasties.
neil.
Good luck with the Zephyr Neil.

so it occurred to me today that now i can band steel wheels why don't i band the stock nash 15" steels for the rear of the nash? fronts can stay the stock 4" width so they're fine. i'd only need to do the rears and i can go to 10" as i know they'll fit, especially as i'll probably radius the rear arches. bonus is i'd lose more of the damaged o/s rear 1/4 panel too. bonus, bonus is i can sell the 4 1/2" and 8 1/2" slot mags i have which will add to the build budget.

the 18" bullitt mustang wheels are sold now, being collected by parcel farce tomorrow (hopefully). bl00dy expensive that was too, it seems prices for pretty much everything's gone up. except fuel strangely, i noticed going past tesco's yesterday evening and diesel was £1.76/litre. lower than the £1.98/litre from a few months ago, but still very expensive. imagine if they hadn't sneakily changed to per litre pricing (so we wouldn't notice how expensive it was getting) and fuel was still sold at a per gallon price!!! £7.99/gallon for diesel, outrageous!!.

i haven't forgotten the nash, honest . i've bought some more mismatched parts to go together (i sound like nobler, lol). a 42-48 chevy front disc brake conversion and a 36 dodge tube front axle. it'll mean some machining no doubt but nothing i've not done before. all good fun.

so i know i bought the mismatched tube axle and brake kit parts but i've also now bought a speedway straight tube front axle kit. the one that comes with brakes, steering parts and leaf springs too. it's been mocked up and then removed but not used. only £800 plus the bit of interest for paypal credit as i didn't have £800 to hand but couldn't resist it, lol. still much cheaper than 'new'. just looked on the speedway website and at todays exchange rate with shipping it's nearly £2500 ($3660). the axle kit's only $1154 and the rest is shipping. 'kin 'ell!!!

my speedway front axle setup finally arrived today. nearly 5 weeks because of the useless courier the guy says he'll now never use again. oh well it's here, dawn was thinking it was a scam and the axle didn't exist. i wasn't worried as i payed with paypal so would've been refunded if it was.
neil.
ok it's official, i must be getting old or i'm a tart or both. i've got a new AC/heat setup coming for the nash. i guess we just get spoilt by our dailies but whatever the reason at the price it was i couldn't say no. it's on ebay and the guy had i think 4 systems for sale. it appears to be an AC upgrade for a tata, one of those indian 4x4's from memory. anyway it has the main plastic under dash box with the gubbins inside, a compressor, the hoses, a condensor rad' and a switch panel. i'm assuming the big plastic box will need some doctoring and maybe the hoses won't be the right length but at £125!!!! brand new i had to have it. carbuilder solutions can supply hose and fittings if needed so that's easy and altering a plastic box? i think we can handle that. this'll be my first build with AC, but dawn wants to keep it so it'll be nice to have it comfortable inside when it's hot like this weekend has been. i told a few mates and one is ordering a set for his 47/8 ford coupe that he's building too.

ps it's this if anyone wants one before they go https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/334760125370

today a little something for the nash, we got the other rear wheel redrilled to ford/mopar pcd. again we bolted it to a hub (on my tube axle as it happens) with a fixed point clamped close to the edge to spin it checking for runout. like the first it's maybe a couple of mm out of true, but in my experience of after market wheels that's as good as new. they all need polishing now, wonder if i can get away with doing them on my lap in the living room while watching telly. guess it depends what's on, lol.

i thought better of taking a wheel indoors to polish, better safe than sorry . but it was nice today, not too hot so workmate in the garage it was. first scotchbrite the rim (shiny) part, then a small cotton mop in the drill and see how it goes with autosol. next the poxy bit that wears the tips off of your fingers on this type of wheel, polishing around the rivets. that was fun . buff the polish off and what a difference :thumbs_up_smiley:. last was the centre which is a brushed/turned finish, tried the scotchbrite pad but no luck. so lets be more aggressive, cut the handle off of a wire brush and brush it clean being careful to follow the machining marks. then back to the scotchbrite and that's much better. lastly press in the chromed plastic bungs to the mr magoo unilug holes in between the new ones. much nicer, i remember seeing a lot of weld draglites back in the day with chrome bungs in the spare holes (they came dual drilled). there are some small nicks here and there but they're date stamped 1988 so i'll allow them that, lol
so, one down 3 to go :D.

if they clear the rear arches they could get fitted sooner rather than later. if not it'll be when i radius the arches so they 'do' fit, lol. i do like a street racer and a gasser (weirdly i like lead sleds too) so i'd be happy to cut them, more so as there's no inner arch connected to the outer so it's be like cutting them on a tri chevy.
