Woohoo!! Reassembly starts!

Not done too much last week as I had man flu which slowed things down a lot. I did re-wire the electric fan with new cables & shrouding and sorted the handbrake warning light cables and brake switch wiring.
Back on it now though and the loom goes in permanently (I hope!) now.

Fuse board fitted over rear arch; (cables not sheathed or fixed in yet)

If you copy the idea for the location make sure you order a TRUNK MOUNT kit not a std one - otherwise you have to extend all the cables....how do I know that......:whistle:

2 steps forward and 3 steps back at present - loom is fighting me - must be getting old as I missed out a wire in the loom so it all had to come out again so I could remove the trunking and add the extra wire - *sigh* it's all back in again now.

There are so many bloody wires! It's difficult to remember every circuit to make sure all wires needed are in each part of the loom before routing it into the car. Only just realised tonight that I had not got any of the wiring for the rear lights routed in yet - Doh! not a big issue as it will be another mini loom to the back.

I'll be sooooo glad when I've done this bit.

Man that sounds complicated Mark, good luck with the new mini loom mate.

Yeah Tim, fitting the fuseboard in the back has made it 10 times more difficult :( all the wires run forwards to the column - but the have to run back to the rear again for the lights etc. I got confused and assumed the light wires running forward were the ones running back :confused:.
It would have been far simpler to exten the dashboard into the car & fit it behind the dash - but I hate extended dash'es in Pops - IMO it spoils the whole look, but it's created a bit of a monster in the wiring dept - It will all be worth it in the end though - I think!!

Let's hope you don't get any faults :eek: Must be a nightmare doing that way :(

It's triple protected Steve - so should be faultless when done. I'm lucky in that I get most of the posh electrical parts free from the company that used to be next door to us - all top quality parts so everything is sheathed, adhesive heat shrunk, water sealed glands for any bulkhead and weatherpak connectors on everything.
I've tried to make it that connectors are based where I might need to remove panels/bulkheads so it's all relatively easy to strip down if the need arises.

I certainly could have done it in an easier way though!

Wiring isn't my favourite part of any project, but you do get a certain satisfaction when it works without leaking any smoke out! What is the power to the driver and passenger harnesses for?

They are electronic controlled harnesses, powered up on ignition to allow inertia reel to work, but lock up on cornering/braking/accelleration or more than 20 degree slope. If I cut the power it turns them into fixed 4 point harnesses for racing.

Ah, right,thanks. Certainly will make them more user-friendly when you're just driving about then. I had fixed ones in mine years ago and they were a bit of a pain in the arse at times.

2 steps back and 3 steps forward tonight :)
After another visit to my friendly free electrical supplies store :D today I got some nice bulkhead gland connectors and some more free cable. Spent most of this evening sorting it & heat shrinking it together before sheathing it and fitting it into the car. I now have all the wires necessary for the rear end. P clips should arrive tomorrow so it can be secured properly.
Tested main cable conduit for column and all wires 'just' fit inside it - a few more nights and I think I may be over the worst of it all.

Good to see you getting the better of it Mark, one question though... Is'nt conduit supposed to have a percentage air space? Just asking whilst you can still go up a size if needed mate.

Im not sure Tim - hope not as I'm on 1" already? I dont think it does as I'm being advised by the electronics company who supply the stuff for fire brigades/ambulances etc. I will ask the question though.

They should know Mark, it may be just a "Later Mod" provision some companies suggest, but you won't be doing any mods will you mate.
