Nice job done and dusted [emoji1303]

yep finally. it's been here since august, but the job just grew and grew. got to service my daily next. then fit a 4 barrel holley to a rover in a 105e along with a full new exhaust. then a 30's? nash lafayette gasser that needs several little ish jobs.
i'll get back to mine one day, lol (both of them).

yesterday we swapped the rear tyres and front wheels/tyres on the cresta. the skinny weld draglites don't suit the car nor did the 55 profile tyres on them so we swapped them for a pair of 4x15 steels with crossplies from my nash. the old cracked firestone 'mock up' slicks on the rear wheels went flat within days of the car arriving so are now replaced with a pair of old but with good tread n50x15 kelly superchargers. at least it'll roll out of the way to get the ute out of the garage now.
today we had a run out to fareham in hampshire to collect the fe big block for the cresta. it was bl00dy windy on the motorways at times i can tell you. anyway it's now sat in the boot of my s-max 'til ash' comes here after work monday to get it out and into the garage over the road. the bellhousing for my fmx arrived in the week so that's all the main bits to get some decent power in the cresta (once the engine's freshened up anyway).

the ute's off home at the weekend finally, talk about mission creep .
we've taken all the left over rover 'stuff' as part payment so now when there's time we'll make one good one out of the two to go with the gearbox and convertor out of the cresta. now we need to decide whether to then fit them in the cresta with a parts investment of £200 or fit the ford 352 fe big block and box with probably at least treble that in parts. i guess it depends if the plan is to run the cresta between us or sell it on as a project .

we moved the cresta over so the ute can get past at the weekend when they collect it. i took a pic but after 15 minutes trying to load it to my pc i found there was an error so i need to take another. great if the battery wasn't flat, probably why there was an error. just waiting for a bit of charge so i can get this done and back in the warm.

i've been thinking (bad idea i know) and..... i'm tempted to fit my nash's complete and running fe big block and fmx to the cresta and get that on the road. 2 reasons, 1st.. i'll have a car to use while it's for sale and 2nd.. some of the money from the cresta can buy me a stroker kit and ally heads for the other fe that will then go in the nash. how's that sound?

Sounds like a plan unless you get bogged down with other work ?

Yeah, you need a bigger engine to tow the fuel tanker.
i keep forgetting to say... when we swapped the tyres and wheels on the cresta the n/s rear wheel turned freely. this shouldn't be possible with the lsd and a closer look revealed the flange turned but the halfshaft didn't. when the jensen lsd was fitted either the woodruff key was forgotten or it slid out of it's keyway as the wheel flange was fitted to the halfshaft. a quick look on ebay and i had a new key on order and is now here ready to be installed.

oh, and the 'build the cresta first' plan is a goer :thumbs_up_smiley:

Surprised to hear that Jensens ran with a keyed axle! I suppose they must have held up OK as otherwise 3 wheeled Jensens would be the but of jokes!

I actually went off and did some googling. Came across a vid of a guy removing a hub. Man that was tight and took some serious weaponary and effort to remove. Assuming the shafts are tough those axles should take plenty of punishment in service.
Early Ford stuff is similar design and pretty tough. Folks abuse them but sudden and instant failure is always a possibility!

they normally do mate, lol.
even the 'jago' front axle's getting the heave-ho. the uprights/spindles whatever you want to call them are 'home made' (for want of a better description) and we wouldn't be happy with a big block sat over them, the brakes are too small as well so....
anyway i mentioned to ash' that i'd even use a double wishbone front end of some kind and he suggested why not use the narrowed granada 'clip' off of his zephyr. we're going to make him a full chassis with a speedway tube axle (in stock of course) so won't need the granny stuff.
so... the cresta is destined to have more of a street racer vibe than gasser now but that's just fine.

it's becoming fe big block central here it seems, lol. ashley went and bought 'another' 352, same as the other 2 here already for the cresta and nash. when his zephyr came off the road as the th350 sh1t itself he said we've got just over 2 years 'til keely (his wife) is 40 and she wants to go to her party in the zephyr. plenty of time right?........
she's 40 in april so that went fast, lol.
so he bought this running fe along with a good truck c6 box with the new plan being to fit them along with the exploder axle by the end of march. you with me so far? then he can use it while we 'eventually' build the new chassis and 440/727 to go in it. he told me once we've done the rechassis job he'll give me the fe/c6.

the v8 105e's here and we made a start. first was to assess what was needed for the zorst and get that all ordered. then while waiting we pulled the su's and inlet ready to swap the 390 holley and it's inlet onto the rover engine. all the pipe arrived including the over the axle mandrel bent section. we're going 2 1/4" from the down tubes to a 'y' piece we'll make. this'll join to the 2 1/2" over the axle bit into the 2 1/2" thrush turbo muffler. mountings and the muffler are all we're waiting for now and hopefully they'll arrive by the time the inlet and carb are fitted and set up.

we cleaned up all the gasket faces and got the 'new' inlet bolted in place today. there were some fittings and bungs to be swapped from the old inlet but we're there now. a new 'stat is on the way and i'll order a throttle cable bracket and carb gasket too. the battery was on charge for the hour we were out there, it'll get more next time.

forgot to say my mate has adapters and a pair of plain steel 289 ford rocker covers to fit to the rover engine too.
