I've copied this thread to Nick Butler, to see if he can forward it on to Mickey's widow, as I know she really wanted to see it at Mickey's funeral. Somewhere I have pics of it with the Boston Strangler when I had it, up at the first Supernats at Knebworth.

We never really spoke about music, so I don't know if Micky was a big `Who` fan or not, though it`s highly possible. The conversation was normally about cars when he was around.
If he was, that would be the link as `Pinball Wizard` (the song) was released in `69 as part of the rock opera `Tommy` and `Pinball` (the car) was built very early `70s, when it was common to use song names on a rod.
The little caricature`s head on the car is a chrome pinball.
It`s funny, but `till he grew a beard, Micky always struck me as looking a bit like a Pete Townsend lookalike...

Brian, I always wondered if the fact that Mickey sold his T bucket to some bloke called Keith Moon had any influence?

As far as I know Bob, Micky only had it in the original colour scheme, in Middlechrome yellow and Sunset red, as below. I think there was Murano Pearl on there too which gave it that `glow`, but not sure...

I have to say that if any car deserves restoring to the original CC feature guise as posted by Brian, then Pinball Wizard is it. No disrespect was meant by that statement to the current owner and it's great to see it out and about and used as I'm sure Mickey would approve of.
Like many iconic American hotrods, Pinball has had a long and varied 'career' and everyone has a distinctive 'version' in mind, Bob has stated the influence on him of the version in the first pic, I prefer the CC paint job but the car has been through so many rebuilds, Paul Hensher ran it as an out and out racecar in Outlaw Anglia prior to running the Gas Attack car and we should celebrate the fact that such an icon has survived in largely unchanged condition.

By the way Bob, do you want to let on about the rear wheels?

its been in that current guise for at least 20 years, it was up here for years but never got used much. It was a quick car of the time i saw it at blackbush in 83ish racing, it was still wearing the original wheels at that point but dont think it had the red on it , i would need to look back at old pictures i took.

Too true Des, I remember going over Pauls when he was trying to straighten the `glass flip front!. It all came good in the end though...
