Just spoke to Dave and his words were that it was 30 years ago and his memory isn't what it was but the car was an old race car from the east coast, was black and unchopped. Dave said he is more than happy to answer any questions if you want to call him.
Dave also said the fire was at Phil McIntyre's place in the New Forest.

I wouldn't believe what you read in magazines mate, they seem to make it up as they go along
I've seen old pics of Dave chopping it so I know Daves version is correct

Kev, i did indeed own it for a couple of years 2003 - 2005. I bought it after the fire mentioned in a previous thread (the house burnt down, not the garage).

    Hey !
There's a surprise, only just spotted you've put some pictures up at last !!

Lucky for me Ian lives down the road, i get to see it in all its glory... or not as the case turned out to be.

Looking forward to seeing it progess, its going to be well worth it in the end. Should go like a rocket without all the filler in it. Need to be a weight lifter just to pick up a rear fender.

    Paul

Paul, as you know you will be project manager! Now you have told every one about weight of rear fenders no one will want them but just in case i have the old fenders here for sale, the backs were made up by dave as they were originaly bobbed. Also have a rear splash apron, dave told me he made it out of a fridge! These and other parts if not sold including the tilt steering coloum will be at the swap meet

Hi all the roof reminds me of my willys !! Anyhow I have been friends with Dave for years and me and Dave and a couple of others actually took the car off a trailer outside his house all them years ago ! I spent many hours and days etc watching and giving Dave a hand with the car all them years ago so I see it from the start to the end we also helped him block the car down and quite honestly I cannot remember the roof being that bad but that was a long time ago and I remember sitting in it and peering through the window screen the day Dave completed the chop, so yes Dave defo chopped it ! And we went to grays picnic and I nearly stuck a quad bike in the side of it !! Hence I ain't been on one since but I do know in it's time it's was the dogs knackers and I loved it !!!!!

At last work on car is now on the way! Im going to use the cowel vent and the pannel welded on roof has been removed. Most of the structure around old insert is still there. I should have some decent pics soon. All of the floor is coming out and the sub rails are being replaced. We were going to try and save them but the amount of work needed was such that it would not be cost efective! These are coming from mcpherson sub rails in the us, while we wait for them to arrive, were going to do some work on chassis inc tidying up and finnishing welds, welding up unwanted holes (loads of them) panhard rod bracket, new gear box x member, plus many other jobs!. I have a new gm 350 300 hp crate moter, with a new th 350 box and a spare bedroom at home with loads of goddies in! Many thanks to fh ellis for there louvre work and to russ and richard of r&r.more pics soon

    So many problems!

Hi all, i now have plenty of pics of car being worked on. It seems that the chassis was almost as bad as the body! From the bulkhead forward it was 2" out of sq, the rear portion of chassis was out of level, no boxing of chassis around spring hanger brackets, most of the brackets were welded in out of line and in some cases only partly welded, i could go on. However petes been busy and the chassis is now square and level, the front crosmember was taken out and cuts in chassis made so it could be pulled about. The old main crossmember and gbox mount came out and was moved back as the new th350 box was a diferant length. I will now be posting more pics of whats going on reg. Hey steve if your looking at this, your 34 looks great, i cant believe how long it took! Ian

One of the thing that held up work on car was the state of the sub rails. I never thought they could be so bad, pete could fix it but timewise it was a no brainer, i called mcpherson sub rails in the us and they with the help of r&r sent me some new rails. Take a look at these pics of the old ones if you like rust!

Not all bad news, here are some pics of some parts going into car, the rear gas tank cover from howels sheet metal in the us, louvred by fh elles. The rear floor sections, and a selection of new pannels being cleaned up and etch primed so they can be handled.

    Hi Ian
Yep i'm checking your build thread, great to see you making progress.
You got enough spirit levels there ?.
I used Howell's for new inner front fenders on mine, they are very good.
That looks like some very hungry tin moths on those sub rails !!!.
Thanks for the kind words about the coupe, can't praise Zane enough.
Look forward to parking up next to you.
    Best regards
    Steve.
