    alleycat fordson

I spotted in the December Mailbox of Custom Car that a fella by the name of Duncan Read was trying to get some info on the legend fordson "Alleycat". I don't know a whole bunch,so I,m just trying to kick this into action.Malcolm Beakhurst we are told,is one of four who were going to race it,unfortunately;another car totalled in a towing accident! They say in the reply, that enough interest might get a bit more of a feature going, which would be awesome.Vans are really coming out the woodwork at the moment so I,m sure people would be interested. The snippet I know is it was another jag power using a lot of original fordson parts, and somewhere down the line the master by the name of Ed Wimble had his hands upon it.I think he sprayed some of the writing, but not all of it,or something like that?

Eddie did indeed do the wording and signwriting on `Alleycat`. I understood it that the van was destroyed when the trailer came unhitched from the tow car, went across a road and demolished an AA or RAC box (there are photos of the crash scene around).

Great photos;caught the names of the owners, and the JAPearce mags. The roll cage thought went through my head as well
Well that's a heap of damage and I was wondering how it could race without a roll cage?the answer;it didn,t because it did, have a roll cage, that is,It had a loop over the driver, warning enough I,d say

Columbo,s got nothing on me,I found some great stuff. It seems a poster is available of the van, nice. It was raced at the "pod" where at some stage they blew the engine, not so nice.On the way to Sweden a wheel bearing seized up on the trailer, which caused it to pack up proper on the way to Santa Pod and the whole lot to detach itself and smash up.I found this stuff on the web if you want more detail.Sad but true fantastic looking van Malcolm Beakhurst Steve Gillian Malcolm Watts Chris Wilson.Just one more thing,
well,it looks like it was a race car so the next question always;what times could it run?Being we are looking 1970 and its a Jag straight 6 I don't think it would set the world on fire compared to engines people are using now,but that doesn't lessen its greatness OH,just another thing, mam, sorry if your getting bored with this but I found more stuff.,almost not intentionally.I found the magazine it was in but I cant disclose because I'm going to have to buy it.The 4 guys racing the car are "Quadrant" Racing. It was good for 15 second quarters ish,but was clean enough at shows to have mirrors under it.Once I read the article proper,I,m sure I,ll have more info, unless someone arrests me first

    That's really me done,at last,they say.There is more to it obviousy,but I got a July 1971 Custom Car,and the most of it is in there,before smash times,anyway.
