Top pin came straight out easy, gave no resistance to the vice ,that’s how the other one should have gone.

So,things for people to look at here and learn,Pop hinge pins can come in various states of deterioration, just take time to assess what is happening at the hinge pin by opening and closing the door and see where it’s seized and if you have a broken pin .

Seen dome /button head stainless allen bolts used, top and bottom of the hinge. Must involve tapping the center part top and bottom. But I'd be thinking you'd want shoulder bolts so the swinging parts run on something solid, and not just threads. But periodically replacing some 50p button heads installed with lashings of anti size doesn't seem like too much trouble.

You of course would be able to assess any wear with your funny eyes!

X ray eyes is not one of my super power's Chris, oops,I shouldn't be putting those details on a public forum

Still giving the pin replacement some thought, but probably going to keep it standard style , don't want to alter it from original

I'm sure i measured my stainless pins and found them undersize giving a bit of door droop. The replacements were standard ford ones and were a good bit tighter going in ....best get measuring tmrw ...

    Tim Feg,
Could have done with a nap after struggling with that first one

John, already done mate, see post #40,I need oversize whatever style of pin , because the wrong part of the hinges was moving on the pins, smaller parts of the hinge have worn out to 7.4mm.
I know I could repair the hinge by inserting a bush to use standard dia pin but it's easier to just fit a bigger pin.

    Tim W , thanks.

I made my own pins from some stainless bar and a thick stainless washer welded on the top. Washer turned down in the lathe to a nice dome.

They are now just a nice tight fit - I have the ultra thin brass washers in between the gaps of the 2 hinge parts - think they were original Ford ones?

Thanks Mark,i have ordered some oversize pins this morning.

My hinges and pins are still all original from new and they have the thin brass washers in the gaps ,so i think you are right they are originally fitted with the brass

Here's a thought, you can thank me later, or something like that! If a hole has been a bit wallerd out, will simply running a drill through to allow for an oversize pin put the hole in the required position or, as I think might be more likely, will it drill where it likes, line of least resistance and all that?

How to avoid? Hmm. Drilling jig? Reamer (adjustable?) with guide referenced on the other hole ( like reaming King pins).

    Might be overthinking this?

I realise ol Scarlet will have a cunning plan, what with his laser guided eyesight and all that clever, secret stuff!

Was that really me as a baby Chris

John ,I need make two lower brass washers ,the two upper ones are ok but the weight bearing ones have worn thin, and the hinge metal has worn too. Fortunately I have some brass the right size.

I was just wondering wether to drill a lube hole or grease hole in the middle section,I'll have a look at that idea .
Also thinking of making the lower hole a slight interference fit to back up the spline end of the pin.

I would just lube all the pin and give it a good bash in. The pin in the picture of mine has started to drift up, so i drilled and tapped 4mm and added a flanged button head screw to it, barely notciable
