Thanks for that, wondered people had used on the old flathead rather than the standard carb.

Twin SUs are quite common, Aquaplane did an intake manifold for them and still do for those with pockets deep enough!

My bro-in-law raced Spedeworth F2 stock cars in the early `60s, he started racing using twin down draught (stock Pop) Zenith carbs and later used twin side draught 1-1/8th SUs. He also used a Y model head on the Ford 10 engine for higher compression...

Ya I remember see the twin SU manifoId. I'm sure the Webrer gives a bit more acceleration than the original Pop carb. I had two Thames vans and remember you were waiting for ever to get a speed up.

I googled aquaplane and saw they done a duel downdraught manifold, from Brizey's post I now see they sometimes used two standard pop carbs. Sticking a Ford 8 head on a 10 was a common way of getting a bit more power.

I've been messing with single draught carbs for awhile now and use Weber 34 ICH . They come in 3 different fixed venturi sizes 25/27 and 29 and are extremely versatile and jets are readily available for fine tuning if required.

Having overcome some clutch and geabox hokey-cokey issues (engine/box in, engine/box out, in, out, shake it all about) the old Anglia is now in one piece. Having original rod brakes, had to rebuild the compensator units front and back as the swivels weren't swivelling freely. Got it out into the fresh air at the weekend and decided after all this time, I didn't like the stance so this week I lowered the rear 1.5" and fitted the panhard rod. Waiting for Hermes to deliver the anti-roll bar drop links they promised me 2 days ago and the back suspension will be finished.

There will always be a place for V8 Pops imho but I've done this as a modified stocker, rather than a 'proper' hotrod.

I've had the (finished!) wiring apart again this week to fit additional relays - when I rewired the car originally I didn't have an electric fuel pump or fog light, and hadn't originally decided to use the steering wheel horn push. All I can say is thank flock for the kero space heater, it's baltic!
