Thread: My new 103e Project

  1. #21
So it’s been a while since I brought the pop and unfortunately several rather severe bouts of Covid have delayed things a bit.

project has taken a slight detour and I will now be fitting a Zetec blacktop in it.

finally felt well enough to have a day on the car and think I got off to a semi ok start other than the wooden floor being tiger sealed into lace and causing a long time of swear words and going through a few Stanley blades but it came out in the end

    everything taken out so far

    90% done with strip out

    photos up now.

Only issue I have found is taking the glass and window mechanism out - i am sure there is a better way to do it than how I eventually got the unit out.

Undid the door card and handles. Undid the 4 screws holding the window mechanism to the door. somehow managed to seperate the window from the mech and lifted it out. I am not too sure how i actually managed to separate the window from the mechanism so any pointers would be appreciated.

Size: 89.7 KBI’m just finishing this wee a30 off along the same lines as you are going.it’s been a lot of fun in the presses trying to get an old car to stop steer and go maybe not quite like a modern car but at least usable.1275 engine and a Frankenstein gearbox to avoid cutting the tunnel along with disc brakes and a better ratio rear end.just fitting a servo along with some comfy seats and it should be good to go anywhere.

for some reason its showing 6 but I only uploaded 3.

Yesterday was spent stripping out the rest of the interior trim, dash and bonnet. I started on the front wings then realised you either have to be an octopus or have 2 people to undo both nuts at the same time so that will have to wait until the weekend when I can rope in some help.

Thankfully the passenger side wood came out alot easier than the drivers side and then found that the previous owner had glued the leather trim to the car which took a fair bit of time with a heatgun to dislodge.

Also made a rather worrying discovery that the fuel sender wasnt actually wired up properly and the wire had just been wrapped around it and shoved in rather than a proper crimped connection

Dash was fun to get out as it has obviously had some wiring work in the past and shoved up behind the dash making it rather hard to find any bolts, to add to this every nut and bolt seemed to be a different size so spent a lot of time having to switch spanners etc.

Bonnet came off easily enough and is in relatively good nick, one small rust bubble on the top and starting to show around the edges as I was expecting.

Not much of an update but the front end is now stripped down and car is up on stands. Have given it a closer once over and thankfully it’s actually in much better nick than I thought.

Engine out next weekend all being well and then onto boxing chassis etc

Lol yes I took the engine out but left rear axle attached and fuel tank at the time of the photo and had a very quick shock when the car almost flipped off the stands so temporarily weighted down
