A bit more work on Phil's car tonight, he left the passenger kick panel for me and I also cut some new rear parcel shelf panels at work for him.


The time consuming part can be seen here, the rear skin and padding between the ribs needs to be cut away so the outer leatherette bonds to the panel.





The panel laid on ready for working out the corner cutting before doing any bonding.





And approx an hour later it's all completed.

Phils pop is currently residing at Blackpop Towers so I can continue on doing the interier trimming.

The side panels and the rear panel are removed and the windows wedged with some wood as the window garnishes hold the glass in.




Thr rear panel is the first to get worked on, it's bolted in at the bottom so some work was done to weld a strip of steel under the bolt heads and then we could cut the bolt heads down to almost nothing so the trim could go over them. The steel strip was held to the wood panel with a screw so we can bolt the panel back in from the rear only. There is only one bolt on one side as there is a seatbelt clip bolted through on the other bolt for secureing his dog.



Mostly done with the speakers fitted.




Rear panel then fitted back into the car. It was getting late in the evening so that was as far as both of us got yesterday.



This morning I was back on it and I got the peice of aluminium angle fitted to the parcel shelf at the top of the rear panel that holds the top of the rear panel trim tight and also forms the lip for the parcel shelf.



I then started on the side panels - I seem to have forgotten to take photos of making these, first one roughly cut to shape here;



And some small additional blocks to fill the gap where the panel bends to meet the B post.




Then it was stripping the 40 plus year old panel that fits under the rear window above the parcel shelf - Phil was a bit sad to see this ripped up but needs must.




It did however provide the rear panel that I can use as a template for making a new one. I did think of re-using this one, but unfortunately it's a bit too warped.

Just in view in front of it is the rear parcel shelf trim panel (that sits on top of the parcel shelf) - made of 3mm polyproplyene sheet. I forgot to take photos of this as well during making it.




But here it is fitted in the car.



With all of the panels done apart from the one that goes under the rear window, they were all refitted into the car.
Drivers side rear panel,

And with the door closed. We still need to fit the furflex around the doors that will fill the gaps between the panels.




And a wide angle shot of the whole of the rear.




The drivers front kick panel still nees to be made & trimmed as well as the boot side panels, but we are getting there.

When Phil brings it over long enough to fit it John. Took a year of nagging just to get it back for the trim! He has bought the headliner though.

Last rear section bit completed tonight. The area above the parcel shelf has a filler panel under the rear window that meets the headliner.

I cut a new panel from 3mm polyproplene sheet at work today, and then fine tuned the shape tonight to fit the car properly.




The ends were cooked to put a curve in them to fit the car.




Which makes it look like this;



The panel was marked carefully to make sure the pleats match up with the parcel shelf.



And a couple of hours later it is completed, it will get fitted back into the car tomorrow.

As it finally stopped raining this evening the rear panel got fitted, ready for Phil to collect the car ready for Wheels Day on Friday. If anyone is going come over & say hello.



A couple of other minor jobs, putting longer seat bolts in where Phil had put the frames on top of the underfelt and then Phil took it away.
