    Rear window sealing

    Hello people
I'm about to replace the seal on the rear window, it got messed up bad with silicone and caulk....

When I look under the seal, I see the roof covering outside under the seal.
Doesn't that get wet and suck the water inside? - maybe that's why the silicone was applied?
Can I not cut off the fabric on the inside edge or then the whole headliner comes off?
or will the liquid sealant do everything?

    here is a Picture:

Has the roof been retrimmed ? I'm sure this is cut of in the factory and only left attached to the inside lip

Over time I`ve seen the original headliner both glued just inside the lip (as you say John) and also folded over the lip as in Poppe`s photo. The few headliners I`ve fitted I glue it just to the inside of the lip but with the unglued extra folded over the lip then clamped to dry. Once dry I`ve cut the extra off level with the edge of the lip. This allows the new rubber (with rubber sealant) to sit flush against the outside of the lip...

Thanks, so I will cut the outside to prevent a soaked headliner

When you refit the windows with new seals do NOT use silicone!

The ONLY sealant you should use (on both the glass groove and the body to rubber seal) is Arbomast screen sealant.

    Yes, Sir!
Arbomast is not available here in Germany but I bought a similar product that should do the job.
