so as the c-max will be scrapped i decided it could go without a few bits that could be sold on or used. nearly new h/d battery, rear h/brake calipers, a/c compressor and towball with electrics will all go to the nash and nearly new front discs and pads and the calipers will be put aside for future use. the also nearly new 17" tyres will be sold and the starter motor and almost 4 gallons of diesel will go to the s-max i use as my 'daily'. that lot way increases the value of the c-max beyond just it's scrap value which is a bonus.
i forgot to say yesterday we fitted 4 castors to my old lathe so it's easy to move out of the way if needed.

ash popped in after work with 2 of his mates so we could move my 'old' lathe over the road to the other garage. i'd fitted 4 woefully inadequate castors to it to roll it out to be loaded when it gets sold. so we went down my drive, into the road, up the hill, over the road and the best bit was across the soft grass to the garage entrance. out of the way now so more room so i can chop the exploder axle case to size and fit the new halfshafts ready for mock up under the nash.

so lets get on with this disc brake conversion then.
first we stripped the hub, bearings etc from the mk2 jag upright. gary had already found that the jag outer bearing fits to ac spindle so that was a bonus. the jag inner was unfortunately too small so the ac spindle by 0.22mm when ,measured so that part of the spindle was set up in the lathe and we crept up on a good fit. next the jag hub seal inner is much bigger than the ac was so we needed a 'ring' to press onto the spindle. this we cut from the jag upright and turned flat and opened the inner bore to be a press fit. this was pressed on with loctite for good measure. the jag hub now fits the ac spindle using stock jag bearings and seal. last part is to mount the caliper, so we needed to know where it could go without interfering with the rest of the suspension etc. i checked gary's thread and it was decided to mount it above the steering arm at the rear as mounted on the car. at the front could have been too close to (as in touched) the front shock so that was a no go. with the caliper set in place with new pads and cad spacers to centralise it over the disc a template was made for the caliper bracket and a measurement for thickness was also taken (16mm). this is now transferred to some 12mm plate which now has it's pilot holes drilled. we'll thread the holes that hold the caliper to the bracket, not sure yet if we'll do the same at the spindle end, but they will need 4mm spacers to make up the required thickness.

the other side's all done now, just waiting for the right bolts to arrive and that's that. the inner bearing face on the spindle was worn so needed building up before turning down to suit the jag bearing.
