yes it's tedious work Tim, but as i tell people it's only metal. pick one bit at a time, get it done and move on. you'll get through it all when it's done.

Good philosophy Neil. Little bites gets it done.

ashley dropped his zephyr off yesterday after work so when he finished lunchtime today we could get the chevy 350/350 out as they're both sold. with the mk2 zephyr on the lift in my 'main' garage it had to go over the road where my nash is. we rolled the nash out (easy with no engine/box), backed his zephyr in and he loaded the nash onto his recovery truck where it stayed over night at his house. so with the engine and box out and split apart the swap over was done again, lol. his car won't be on the road again until it's rebuild is complete, mopar 440/727, narrowed 8.8 explorer axle and a straight tube front axle. oh, and he wants a cage in it too. he's hoping for summer 2024 but if he decides to make the 440 a stroker motor it may take longer as that and decent heads will take some more saving up for. no pics worth taking, we've all taken an engine and box out.

Sounds like it's going to be a good project to get your teeth into mate.

Bumper sticker - This is an historic vehicle and only has three speeds....... if you don't like this one you sure as hell won't like the others.
sure is, reckon i was a circus juggler or a plate spinner in a previous life. that or all my fingers should be burnt from being in so many pies
neil.
today we started on the rear of the roof. made up the first two sections to replace the rot above the rear screen and tacked them in place. we layed the skin back on and shuffled it about and it looks like the lololine roof is a goer. didn't get any more done as there was a family panic i had to sort out then . first pic is one of the sections sat in place with the other two showing the skin layed over them.

It's on it's way Neil.

sure is mate. i just spent nearly an hour looking for my cleco's to hold the skin in place, they were somewhere safe so i'd know where they were
neil.
Ha ha, that sounds very familiar Neil.

today we got the roof frame ground clean ready for welding then spent ages shuffling the skin around and measuring 'til we were happy with the position. then we drilled all round, holding it in place with the cleco's which are a godsend. then starting at the o/s rear corner we made the rest of the window surround and roof corner adjusting the skin so it layed nicely where we wanted it. it's all tacked from the back to almost the front corner now. we'll get the whole thing tacked up then go round fully welding it. the lololine roof works then, it may not notice unless parked next to a stock car but we know
neil.
Well, it's looking bloody good from what we can see on the photos Neil, well done mate.

Subtle but really effective Neil, the original roofline was the one thing on these cars I was not sure about.
today we got the other rear corner sorted and we tacked all round the rest of the roof skin. next is the big weldathon to finish it all up, oh joy. only one pic today, i was trying to show from the front how the roof looks. i'm pretty happy with the drop to be honest.
neil.
Looks good from the front Neil, all the best on the weldathon.

Low Life? Ha!
Is this lapped on or is it a but weld? Either way, a lot of welding. Ignore the Smart meter!

chris, yes it's sort of both. look back at my crude drawings showing the panel 'stack up' as it came from ford and how it is now. the skin is butted up to the inside edge of the gutter which is normally under the skin. it's also on top of the inner structure/door frame so as i say both. we had a look in proper daylight this morning and it looks really flat/low from the front. i guess traditionally i'd say it's been 'pancaked'. whatever it's saved some work and time welding and the owner has some extra 'custom' work without the extra 'custom' cost, lol.
neil.
Looks good. When it looks so 'factory', you can only see what has been done when it's parked alongside a stocker, you know you've nailed it. Well done.
the roof skin weldathon is done . now it needs a grindathon before moving on down to the next bits, that'll be where the 'c' pillars meet the rear wing/door shut area.
oh joy .
