thanks Tim, yes that was the least 'inviting' part of the whole job i must say. it was a challenge but it worked out which is always good.

the worst (o/s) side of the 'c' pillar/door shut/quarter panel repairs is now done. i forgot the before pics so here's a couple of the n/s which isn't as bad and the finished o/s. it was easier to cut a section of the gutter away to gain access to the pillar then just make a new bit of gutter. we'll do the same the other side too.
neil.
Looks tidy Neil.

thanks Tim, it was lots of small bits shaped and welded in place, both below the surface and what you can see. still, we know what to expect on the other side now.

Spot on Neil.

cheers Tim, it shouldn't need much filler/mud/plop/bondo to sort it from here

first job today was rehang the driver's door now the gutter above it's done. now we're finally onto the sills. so i thought about the tall stands as they were before and decided we'd leave the left side on the lift and use all 4 stands on the right side. this works much better and feels a lot more 'stable'. that left the arms still only 18" ish from the car but that was easily sorted by simply pulling their pivot pins and putting the arms against the wall out of the way. now there's easy access to the whole side of the car at a decent working height so let the cutting begin, lol.
neil.
Nice and safe mate that's the only way to do it. Good luck with the sills Neil.

well i said it's only metal, and it might have been once . now it's mostly rust and old bad patch jobs probably done for mots in the past. on the plus side the driver's side is mostly now cut away with only the inner sill to cut from the floor and outriggers before a clean up then start fitting the new panels. oh and remember i said we refitted the drivers door? yeah we took both doors off today to get better access to cut the sills off. we also added some box bracing to stop the body going all floppy with no sills.

yes mate but as i said before do one bit move on to the next and it soon gets done.
today my 3ft led lights arrived. pack of 10 for under £80, not bad. we've swapped out 3 existing tube lights and added another each side and bugger me it's bright now. we'll swap 2 more tubes and put an led over the lathe and see how we are then. should've done this years ago
neil.
I should send for one of those then Neil, I've always been told I'm not the brightest

we had a very productive day today. the rest of the old cr4p was cut away, cleaned up and both the inner sill and centre membrane are now welded on. next is rehang the doors..... again, then we can tack the outer sill in place before removing both doors........ again, to fully weld the outer sill. it's getting there .
neil.
ps, spot the 2 missing plug welds . we'll do them before grinding them all flat ready to clamp the sill in place.
