Angle grinder is my favourite, you can do maximum damage in minimum time
I may live in East London, I may have a number plate that reads "Chopt",
but I do NOT use 6" wheel spacers!

Had to take wife out for lunch today, so a bit of a fiddle with the other wing, 32 screws and nuts/bolts to free each wing. Getting there.

    Next time down garage friday.

Bit more done, all wings off, inner wings off, brake servo off, brake line off, clutch m/cylinder off. Another test fit mmmm cant get by original engine mount plates, marked up (sort of) gonna cut them away so oil pump/filter will get past. Still need to open up bulkhead a bit.

Yep took taxi rods cue and attacked with angle grinder on 40 small nuts and bolts on the inner wings that were seized on.

    Getting there slowly.

you'll gain a lump of room/clearance if you lose the oil cooler sandwich plate, pipes etc and screw the filter directly to the pump housing. it' s not like you're going circuit racing or anything, are you?

So down garage today, Yep taking of the sandwich plate/ made a big difference cheers Neil. Also cut away the plates from my old Triumph engine mountings, made a lot more space, about 6 inches and everyone could do with an extra 6 inches.

Tried the engine in chassis again much better down lower and further back, will be ok. However the steering box is a big problem. Gotta see if the Mk2 Jag front will fit so I can remove it, or maybe keep beam axle, and fit a steering rack(not sure how that works but looking at them on here) and see if Neil could do a disc conversion using my hubs and Mk2 2 bits (I,ll see) Anyway chopped the Jag front clip in half and now gotta add 5 inches to width.

Also headers I found on EBlag arrived today will see if I can use them as are or need to do some chopping about.

Oh well onward slowly slowly, would likje to get done by end of August on my 70th and the carts 75th same day, never no if I get my finger out.

Given that the Rover is a rather long lump it's looking well at home there! There looks to be a load more room with the firewall modified some too. Headers and disc conversion to me sounds easier than a clip swap. What does the drag racy looking header look like on the drivers side? And how many cutting discs left now?

Bumper sticker - This is an historic vehicle and only has three speeds....... if you don't like this one you sure as hell won't like the others.

suzuki sj series steering box is tiny compared to what you have there. i've used them a few times now, no master spline for the pitman arm which helps with swapping them too. plus you could cut and bush your column at the bulkhead so a couple of uj's and a splined shaft cab used for more room.

Happydaze yeah pipes a bit drag racy, only slipped on engine to see how they hung, not sure they will go round chassis. Both headers are the same, not sure what they came off other a rover 3.9 engine.

Neil, if I use the clip it has a steering box on it already, so would be able to use that would cut column by bulkhead and fit swivels etc, if i use beam axle will be in touch re disc conv. I would go coilovers and poss hairpins.

Crumble did you mean use a rack if i go beam axle route or for the jag clip?

    Cheers guys for info.

my first thought was cobra kit car but with the small tube welded to the collector, i'd say dragster. they usually connect to the engine breathers with a one way valve/flame trap? in line. as far as i know they're to draw crankcase pressure out of the engine to free up a little more hp.

Been down garage today, well this pm anyway, don't want to overdo it.

Stripped off the front axle and springs.

Notched the tower on the Jag clip, offered it up and looks like it could work with only a 2.5 inch gap to fill. Gotta do the other side then plate the notch to add back strength in the towers.

Will clamp it up to the my existing cross member to ensure it is straight and in the right place before starting to plate it across the gap.

Might then remove my cross member and add a length of box over the Jag cross member which will be about 3 inches forward, will give more space to fiddle the engine in

when you align the jag clip, make sure the chassis is at the correct angle front to back as if sat on it's wheels. then the bottom of the jag clip must be level with the ground. i've seen several jag clip installs where they're not and they drive very very twitchy as the castor angle has been lost.

    Cheers Neil,

I blocked it up and spirit levelled it at ride level. Will tack it all in and check before clean up and full weld.

Also a holly 500 and manifold arrived this evening, will tuck it away until ready.
