Can any one identify these spindles. I'm concerned about the bolt holes with open ends.

they're cut down ford round back spindles mate, same as you get from speedway etc (except theirs have seperate steering arms). being forged you'll be ok to weld a thick washer over each hole.
neil.
Did some spindles come without the radial(?) bearing or are we looking at a mismatch of parts? I know there are 2 spring perch boss height variants, 2" and 2 1/4" but not sure about the King pin boss heights. Very heavy steering if what's pictured is put into use I'd have thought.

Bumper sticker - This is an historic vehicle and only has three speeds....... if you don't like this one you sure as hell won't like the others.
Chris, '32-'34 spindles have the bearing above the axle boss, under the mechanical brake pivot boss on the kingpin, but they're not cross-steer so maybe these are '35 or '36? I know '36 are cross-steer but they have a different spindle bearing length. Don't know about '35 steering - were they drag link style but with roller bearings instead of bronze bushes?
Whatever, I agree with Chris about them not being 'right' on that axle, maybe on a race car if a thin Torrington bearing can be squeezed under the axle boss but not with that style kingpin on a road car.

I would agree about the seeming miss match of parts.
`35s were the first year of cross steer, spindle length on `35s is 5-5/8", back plate holes 3/8". They were a 1 year only type.
`36 spindle length is 5-3/8", also a 1 year only type.
`37 through `41 (round back) spindles have 1/2" backplate holes, so the spindle length and backplate hole dia (measured across what`s left of the holes!) may help identify what year spindles they are!.
Be interesting to know why the backplate holes were cut about?...
maybe it was 'clearanced' for a previous caliper bracket?
neil.
If it is an early pre-round back spindle they may have 'extended' the holes to fit '40 Ford style hydraulic back plates, and figured that 4x half a hole makes 2x whole holes, more than enough for the job![]()
