I watched quite a bit of the live feed, and it was clear that whilst there were the inevitable delays from an oil down, which the crew did a great job, the delays for an hour while everyone went and had lunch together was a bit strange. I would have thought there were enough crew for them to go in shifts for a sammich

I was told hotrodding was expensive, I laughed.......but it wasnt for long
Santa Pod have always stopped for lunch and although it is annoying, especially if there have been oil-downs, they can't be expected to have two full track crews just to cover that (although maybe the extortionate "booking fee" charged on every ticket would pay for a second team!).
At Shakey, the Hot Rod Drags were all about Hot Rods running on the track, with a handful of demo runs mixed in. Someone mentioned that the exhibition classes are needed to attract spectators, which basically says that it isn't run for the participants. I seem to remember the stands being rammed with spectators at Shakey, but maybe that's viewed through rose-tinted spectacles? Or maybe people are less interested in the commercialisation and just not going in the same numbers?

I suspect Santa Pod does have enough crew for shifts - but it's more likely the ambulance/safety crews do not.
