Rover SD1 lifting point mounting bolts.

Does anyone know the thread size of the bolts on the SD1 engine lifting eyes/brackets?

Moderately sure they're unc, probably 3/8", or might it be a case of wtf were Rover thinking when remaking a US motor that almost certainly would have been unc but decided to go with a kinda weird British thread? But Whitwort, for example, matches unc, except for one size, which I can't remember.

Not much use of an answer but hopefully will stimulate someone's grey matter. Mines beyond stimulation. More beer?

Bumper sticker - This is an historic vehicle and only has three speeds....... if you don't like this one you sure as hell won't like the others.

Went straight to this in the stash! No bolts though. The nut and bolt shown were in it but I suspect for another purpose. 3/8 would be a nice fit in the hole. 7/16 would be too big.

    Might narrow it down some?

    Thanks Chris.
I've tried an exhaust manifold bolt, that is 3/8 unc and that doesn't want to go in. I did an Internet search and some was saying they put in a M8 x 1.25. I've not tried that but I don't think that's the right answer, I could be wrong though.

That roughly accords with some stupidity I vaguely recall had been introduced.

Need to check what the common or garden m8 is (re pitch, or tpi... is tpi a 'thing' with metric??? ).

Edit. Regular M8 is m8×1.25 and is regarded as coarse thread. Fine is m8x 1. The 1.25 and 1 are thread pitches in mm.

So m8 is not exotic / rare, far from it.

You might be able to force a M10 in as it's slightly larger. Or someone has run a M10 tap down it as they thought or only had M10 bolts !

I've managed get a good look down the bolt holes, it does indeed look like they are damaged. So I'll run a 3/8 unc tap down them, hopefully that will sort it. Thanks for your replies.
