Bit of a dream come true

I have wanted a Pop for donkeys and finally have one - yay ! Has a Rover V8 and 4 speed (from a 3500S P6 I believe) Herald/Vitesse front end and a Volvo rear axle.

It's been a Hot Rod for decades, so it would be interesting to find out about it's history, so if anyone knows of anything about it's past I would be grateful for any information you may have.

One question I have ; The front seats are from a Vauxhall Corsa and are too wide, so the handbrake is unusable. I was wondering what seats might do and would be interested in what you all have in yours ?

Bit of an update on the seats, they're actually fine both in size and condition - the issue with the handbrake is that it's hydraulic and can't be locked 'on' as it is - the seats have nothing to do with that ! I think I can make a drop down ratchet type thing from some stainless or ally ...... I'll see what I can come up with

I thought handbrakes had to be mechanical… Law may of changed for all I know. I would check out the legality of a hydraulic hand brake if I were you.
no doubt some more knowledgeable on hear will chime in

That could be true, or is it just that it needs to be separate from the main, hydraulic, system? Seems illogical that hydraulic (separate) would be unacceptable if hydraulics are OK for the main system, but you never know!!

Bumper sticker - This is an historic vehicle and only has three speeds....... if you don't like this one you sure as hell won't like the others.

Just a had a quick look online, hydraulic handbrake is legal on vehicles registered before Jan 1st 1968 apparently - I didn't know that !

    That’s good to know.

edit: Had a Google out of curiosity

still not very clear to me, did find this statement, but never verified

good luck & nice Pop by the way

The UK MOT Manual notes that hydraulic handbrakes must be used to assist the application or release of a mechanical brake on cars first used on or after 1 January 1968.

That doesn't read right, at least not to me! If the words hydraulic and mechanical were interchanged then it makes sense, again , at least to me! Ymmv

I have a mechanical handbrake mounted under the driver seat so that it sticks out slightly,if you have enough room under the seat that may be an option for you
