Hi Forum
As a car and bike fan I've finally bit the bullet so to speak and got my self a project. Its a 1959 Chevrolet Apache
Its pretty std as is ( or at least from what I know so far) Where it might not be std is The 283 SBC (as chassis plate doesnt indicate
the V motor). the 3spd auto it has replaced the org 3spd man, and it has a 10 bolt camaro rear axle (9.5in x 2" rear shoes)
But so far it still has leaf springs all round (albeit with a few leafs taken out / up turned to lower the truck)
Single line brakes no servo ! and drums all round !! with original steering box !!! The 50's must have been fun.
So the plan is a modest slight retro rod conversion. concentrating on safer / much improved braking/steering and suspension.
Not an on the floor drop but lower for sure than stock.
Assuming that the motor is good and tranny works that will all stay with mainly appearance and poss engine mount improvements.
As much as I've love to be able to throw buckets & Buckets of £'s and have a new crate fully chromed and blinged BBC etc etc unless I get a sizeable win on the Euromillions it aint gonna happen.
So the learning curve begins ... American V8;s of the 70'S ? Auto Boxes, significant suspension works and getting the details of retro
meets modern whilst retaining old charm.
