    Custom Paint

    Hi Guys.
Does anyone out there know of or has used a paint shop that isn't afraid of painting a Hot-rod? I have a 1954 Ford pop painted in Harley Davidson Violet pearl. Everyone that I take the car to make excuses for why they cant spray it and the ones who say they can don't instil much confidence in me when I look at the work they are doing already. I live in Reading Berks but would travel for a good spray shop. Thanks in advance for any leads.

That question seems really strange, or certainly does to me! What would have been regarded as fancy, custom paint years ago is now commonplace, so it seems odd that you can't find anyone interested locally. Of course there may well be many factors as to why that might be.
Check out Tony Gabriel, Colour tone, Bracknell.
Up t North I'd be checking out Passion for Paint ( see YouTube channel) as he's done all sorts, based Cheshire. Dave Rothwell, somewhere in Lancs. Bryan Whitfield in Sheffield. Colin Woods, IMS Motorbodies, Manchester (doing a Pop right now).
    Others are available!!

Bumper sticker - This is an historic vehicle and only has three speeds....... if you don't like this one you sure as hell won't like the others.

What are you asking them to do? If you need some damaged areas blending in to match the existing paint, that is going to be much harder to do satisfactorily than a complete re-paint. I guess things like water-based paints also complicate things further if you are trying to match an existing finish.

Also how much you ae prepared to pay will affect their willingness to try. Most shops earn more money with crash repairs and in less time than a full respray .If you are just asking then to blow over an existing paint job without bare metalling they normally won't, same as most won't paint a home preprepped car . WHEN stuff starts to show though a good shop won't want it's name tarnished due to other work.

My Model A was involved in an incident in 2010. Peels Motorkraft had no issues taking it on.
They didn't do a complete respray and it involved a lot of process's including Prismatic being laid in. The original paint was laid in the early 80's.

They have always done Hot Rods as well as normal stuff, they also repaired and patched up my El Camino

Don't know if Phil Smith is still working (in Bedford) there was nothing he couldn't do back in the day. Adrian at Buckland will know, might be worth a ring mate.
