    Although they may not be compatible for IVA Ive shoosen to mount the seat belts on the rear quarter panel a bit like old 70s pagoda mercedes and BNW coupes 3litre csi? and others. Im a little low but tried to make things super strong in the hope common sense prevails and there seen to be suitable , I think there is a little leeway in Basic IVA for some things, seat belts might not be one , but im going to take the chance . Bit just in case im also building in the mountings for some inertia reel harnesses . that will be fine for IVA ..

    The result is a massively strong rear quarter panel and a much stiffened body

    panels are 2mm with a 2 mm backer for additional support .. welded into the rear bulkhead , inner wings B post and window apperture . . If they dont like it thats fine , its stffened up the shell so its still something..










    also made a couple of alterations to the dash and added some demist vents and air deflectors ( aka 10mm solid bar welded on )






    managed a few other odds and ends and brough the thing on a fair bit. I have a list of stuff I want to have buttoned up by the end of the week so best get the head down and the finger out ..

    Thanks all for the kind words .. its all a bit agricultural to be honest , but thats fine because I live in the country It will fit in with the tractors and combines Just whinging it to be honest , Was hoping to get the fabrication work on the floors etc completed by this weekend , but the seat risers are still taking ages to complete , started welding them in but have to keep checking the seat runners still bolt in without and misalighnment . One down one to go . then just a hand full of small finishers to button up that side of the fabrication before its back onto the chassis to complete the welding and build up on that .

    The idea is to follow a grass roots approach to the build . Its all got a bit to spendy in the real world, so took a step back in time and decided it had to be basic, but up to date , cheap but not bargain basement , and tidy but not show quality, if you look close youll get it, but if you just see the surface , youll not give it a second glance and walk on by . I dont have the wedge for paint materials so its staying as it is . Im not painting it for the IVA test, just a few blow ins where there have been some required repairs .

    It will hopefully have a home brewed tuck n roll interior with a gorrila fur roof liner .. a 70s throwback to match the classic POP running gear from that era Who didnt love gorilla fur headliners in the 70s and 80s .. its meant to be a bit of fun and nothing to serious .. just a bit better built that the average pop back then but look like it might have been unearthed from a damp shed .. after a 40 year lay down.

    re belt height for the test had you thought about neatly reinforcing the area above the side window and bolting a really thick flat bar between the 2 points to hang the belt from? you know it'd be ok for the test and easy to remove and lower the belt to where you have it now afterwards. it'd be a shame to get knocked back test time for the sake of a little additional work now. obviously it'd look less than ideal but just like changing things like steering wheels and mirrors after the test it'd get you to where you need to be.

    Good stuff, i particularly like the idea of strengthening the inside of the rear quarters

    Cheers Neil , If they dont accept the location and method due to the height of the swively bit , the "fix" is a 4mm plate that bolts onto the current stucture that relocates the swivel a little higher , but im leaving things where they are and prepared to test the system .

    Im more concerned about stuff like the internal door handles and finding a nice tidy E marked combination fog and reverse light that I can "french" into the rear vallance ..

    Internal door handles are mostly ok as std. I do have an IVA pair you can borrow for the test though.

    I've used a lot of these Ian , clear/chrome when unlit . Can be fitted stepped back from under the bumper / rear valence so they can't be seen when stood next to them but meet all requirement on angles of visibility.

    Also dusty coat of satin black ( or light film black )disguises them well after test while still meeting MOT spec ( MOT NOT required for first 3 years on road as 'new' car )

    Love an IVA Pop build, keep it up, progress looks fantastic so far.

    Particularly like the dash, seems like all the radii and criteria are met in one there, nice job.

    Madea fair bit of progress , the type where you just get things buttoned up then step back to find it looks like youve done nothig for weeks yet youve been in the shed every spare second !!

    Any hoo, its getting there . Being on a roll with the metal work Ive decided to just crack on with some more of the interior stuff, tying everything in and making the parts so there ready to be dressed up and bolted in when the time comes ..

    Started off with a shifter shroud , The shifter iw a chinese knock off of a locar style unit , but obviously of lesser quality . I didnt want to pay to much as It had to be modified a fair bit to work with the GM180 auto which has the selector on the rught side of the box .



    Also I made the tunnel as small as I could to get as much space in the cab , so the selector has to run on the inside . Unfortunately the layout wouldnt pass the IVA so made a shroud to cover it up '






    Pics make it look huge , but its actually quite a compact thing that just allows the shift lever to swing in its arc and the selecter rod to do its thing with the least ammount of clearance . It doesnt look pretty but it functional . Once its burried under the carpet youll never know its there .


    With the shifter sorted it was back onto the dash . I had decided to fill the void under the dash to nide all the gubbic and clean up the appearace a little . That includes the area around the steering colum and pedals .



    It was a wee bit tricky in some areas but managed to beat some tin into submission to fill the gaps . still have to add a small parcel tray just to break up the big space and provide a place for old fuel reciepts, dry pens, sticky sweets you cant get the paper off , some spare change and a handfull of ods and ends that every parcel shelf must have .







    I also made a start to making some prefered width and profile rear wings a while back so plan to resume them in the next week or so ..





    Wings are a wee bit further on but still just part done , I kinda like to make a start to big jobs then put the pieces to one side and come back to them later . These have since been trimmed to the tyre radius . Overall there probably sat around 2 inches over stock and been tickledin the english wheel with a little less pressure to get rid of the heavy wheeling marks . Im not going for a metal finnished item, these will get a bit of filler to smooth them out but on the whole there in the ball park .

    Continuing to plug away at the sheet metal side of things , since,

    A. I have plenty sheet metal to hand

    B. Its not costing anything but time

    c. Its the stuff that takes ages .

    D. I kinda enjoy it .

    Been messing around panelling in around the dash and steering, trying to make it tidy and functional but keeping in mind the IVA side of things .

    With everything more or less made up to be fully removeable , It got a lick of primer and a wee smile as I was kinda happy with the result . The small parcel shelve ties it together and reduces the void under the dash.

    Not everyday Im happy with an out come , but there you are . Its not perfect , but its functional and tidy and ticks the required boxes , I think !

    Added a foot rest , drawing the line at cupholders ..but might add a mounting for a CD player ... old school ish .... Cheers for now
