From memory, it was advertised in, and organised by CC. But what state their 1973 'archive' would be like... who knows... especially as it would have transfered buildings etc. (Dingwall Ave at the time...)

But I would love to think that some pics survived... Any of the Chelmsford Drag and Hot Rod Club Guys likely to have any?

Anyone else see Grafitti there? Anyone know the cinema? was it the Pavillion? I know it became Zeus nightclub...

Mopar the MK 2 being two doored could be the one that was painted light yellow.
If it is the one im thinking off,the Guy dont no his name used to go to the Weir and the Nats at great Leys.Im 99%shore he still has the car.
Wilfs MK2 was blue when he first got it.

went down there last year for a look
all we see was a yellow model y
its the one that has a trailor with a pedel car on it
    at the nats

There was a 455 with nos Trans Am at Stock road, left tyre marks as far as the eye could see against the Reliant.
Yes remember the white n stripes Manta at North Weald, with small block.I think the tyre place was right down the far end of the road that the indoor car show was on.
Mopar think Wilfs MK2 might not have been out that long when you took that pic.I see the car in grey primer waiting for the orenge to be added.

hi, the film events were definately organised by the chelmsford club & not custom car, i dont think there was ever a mention of it in any of the mags as i have recently been through every issue of hot car & custom car from no1 to mid 77 with a fine tooth comb looking for chelmsford related stuff, if it was there im sure i would have found it, however please prove me wrong if you can! I am in contact with ken robbins trying to find out a bit more, i know that flyers were given out at the southend cruise and all the cars drove directly from it to the showing & a load of people did not get in, not enough room!

Further back on this thread there are some origional flyers that i posted regarding this, well worth a look.

I dont know of anyone in the club who has any pics but i will try & pursue it at the next meeting, cheers.

Been in touch with ken he has no photos so as i say i will pursue it with some of the other ole timer club members (sorry ken love u lots really)
ive been through Bob Rothwells club archive box again & i have found some more stuff on the films as shown in the pics, (i have aleady shown 2 of them further up the thread), i think bob actually drew these up, it looks like they are all the second saturday of the month & if you check out the grafitti ones one is the 12th of november & the other one the 13th, so i would guess that bob spent an hour designing one of them, sat back all chuffed then noticed he had put the saturday date down wrong, so he had to start all over again & used a different drawing, good ole bob, we miss you, enjoy...............

As a local I'm really enjoying this thread. Most of the stuff mentioned is before my time, but I can remember my Dad taking me to the show at the airport as a nipper, must heve been around '79 or '80. I can remember being very impressed with the 'Prisoner' T Bucket, although I didn't have a clue what it was at the time.

What is it with this area and 2 doored Mk 2's ? I looked at the yellow Consul last year with a view to buying it, and obviously Wilf's car is still about and Ford Fever is still local. Are there any more still around?

Wilfs MK2 was blue when he first bought it,had Rover and auto, raised up rear complete with Spring Assisters, small rear arch extentions,no exhausts and i think chrome 5 spokes.Wilf never used the car on the road like this.Richard King done the chop and i think the Transit rear arch work.
heres a pic which couldant have been long after the car came out as the Chopped down trim round some of the windows wasant back on.
Thats Wilfs mate "Spanner"in the pic he who had a 390 powered Galaxie wagon and later a Orenge 360 powered Chalenger.I remember the Galaxie smokin a tyre. round the Weir rounderbout.

This yellow 351ci Cougar was pictured in a Street Machine give away poster driving along a duel carrigway in Basildon along with the Camaro next to it which was his brothers.Dave Kelly later bought the Cougar and had it Pro streeted.

This Pop i see outside the Foresters pub one cruise night and thats Dave Kellys old BMW with small block Chevy power that used to be white and used to go to the cruise and indoor show.

A couple of years ago I bumped into the guy who used to run the weir burger van from about 78 through to the early 80s, I was going to say hello but was too star struck he still looked exactly the same as he did back then
