Interesting two sides to the story. My friends used to think it was cool and one day wanted one. They all own stuff like Audi A4s and stuff now and my best friend who used to be really into cars was actually terrified when I took him out in the Pop, despite it probably being the safest of any of my motors up to that point. That lot now say they wouldn't drive one because they'd feel unsafe, brakes, seatbelts impact zones, door bars etc etc. Yawn, excuses. I think you get like that after a while and justify not ever having bought that project to yourself. It's sad when an old passion like that dies. I guess they will be the midlife crisis car buyers.

Other people don't get it, it's the why don't you get a new car, is that legal yada yada yada and I'm forced to fire up the engine and drown them out.

Jon, the biggest safety feature is the nut on the end of the wheel If they feel they need all that safety equipment to be on the road they must live in constant fear?

When you get older people just assume you're eccentric ! LOL

Oh yeah and I get the are you going to sell it when you finish it question all the time as well. Why would I spend years of effort and hard-earned on something just to sell it at the end?

I think they do Kev, that's why they feel the need to buy bigger and bigger cars. Put them in something like Roland's T and they *parp* themselves

Ooo I think I just dropped my best mate in it

The general public want to hear that it's worth £80,000. Does 0-60 in 2 secs, 200mph and does 3 mpg. They're generally disappointed if they don't get the correct answers....

A common statement is "I couldn't possibly consider driving a car without central locking/electric windows/power steering/air conditioning" , which for most of "us" totally misses the point. I think you have to be a bit off mainstream to understand our cars, and perhaps that in itself adds to the attraction.

Its not my mates that ask, but I get a lot of reps coming into work, often several weeks since their last visit. Then I get 'you finished that old yank yet ? Why dont you just buy a new blah blah & then you can drive it. Thats a lot of money for something that doesnt work'.
I just smile through gritted teeth & push 'em harder for another deal.
