    Humber Hawk

    Just picked this up.
1960 Hawk series 1a, ground up restoration two years ago. Looks stock but it is fitted with a Rover V8 and 5 speed and a 10 bolt LSD rear.

Just drove it back from Poole.
Thanks to Dusty for his assistance (lift down). Cheers mate

that'd make a lovely gasser and with being fully restored you'd only have the mod's to do and no repairs first .

Very nice. Room for more than a Rover V8 in there though....

    Cheer's guys.
Neil, much as I like gassers, this is just such a nice sleeper (as noted by Jimmy and Dennis) that I really could not do that to it.
It needs a slight hit with the lowering stick, particularly the front which sits higher due to the loss of cast iron (the back is low in the photos due to the ground and the fact that the boot is stuffed full of spares!), then the handling sorting to stop the door handles scraping on cornering.
    Yes, it's my daily

The detail in that old car is brilliant, if I remember correctly one of the tail light reflector lenses unscrews to reveal the fuel filler neck. You don't 'drive' these old Humbers more like sail them in the general direction you want to go ......... Oh and plenty of turns lock to lock on the steering

Given my marital record I'm not so sure I should encourage people

I wonder how the bride would react as I shifted into 5th at 110 then demonstrated it's "interesting" cornering characteristics

    Cheers Paul.

We went out for a ride today and I explored what it could do. Now I'm not sure the previous owner ever pushed it, he was happy it went and was reliable. He did say the engine was from a TR8. These seem to get modded a bit.
Anyway, I thought I had opened it up a bit bringing it home but no. I floored it on a local long straight and after a sort of rasp from the inlet or exhaust it let rip. It just howled and threw itself at the horizon. Stock Rover my ar$e Very chuffed

Cheers Brian. My plan exactly. I do need to sort the handling a bit though, cornering can be close to terrifying due to the lack of casters on the door handles

as you say lower the front a bit and maybe get the steels banded for slightly wider tyres but keep the hubcaps for 'the look' . uprated (maybe adjustable) shocks and you're away

Very nice car, looks good as is but as you say tweak the suspension and will look spot on.

Very nice indeed Paul, can see why you "had to have it" mate.I agree, a little lower would do it no harm.
