    disc brake question.

    2 questions for the tech guys.
    what sort of steel are disc brakes made off?
    is their any other grade of steel that can be used?

    I'm pretty sure most OEM rotors are cast iron John. High carbon content stainless seem to be used on aftermarket bike discs. I guess it's down to what you are thinking of doing and then getting some more specific information.

    They are grey cast iron. Used for cost and performance.

    I'm looking into doing a disc brake conversion. I was looking at the hubs and thinking a straight flat bolt on disc might work well. That's when I was thinking of what material they are made off.

    Rally design do discs and bells for all sorts. Universal bells undrilled too. May be worth a look.
