OK - so its taken me a long time to come to terms with my mistake and be able to share the details with you - having driven it a few miles since I also know that problem was solved successfully

Hopefully the picture below makes the issue clearer and how this was fixed.....I shoulda stuck with the wooden model

Suns out and it's quiet round here so thought I would post some of the little jobs done since the front brakes.......

Quick tidy of the engine - new coil mount, dizzy and leads.......still dirty under there though

During lockdown decided to refurbish the rear axle on the Pop - needed a freshen up with a repaint, new brakes lines, new bearings and seals (the old ones had leaked badly for some reason), spider gear shims and a different brake setup to change to a 5 stud wheel pattern to match the front. Managed to find all the components to switch to MGC rear drums from the normal MGB setup......hope these work OK, slightly smaller diameter but wider shoes and smaller, single piston wheel cylinders that have inbuilt adjusters (unlike the MGB setup where the adjusters are separate)!

I will be selling the wheels and tyres that were on the car previously:
Front - 3.5 x 15 polished Centerline Autodrags, 4 x 4.5" PCD, with tyres (can't remember what I've got on these but pretty new)
    Rear: 8 x15 polished Centerline Autodrags, 4 x 4.5 PCD, with BF Goodrich 255/70 R15 radials
Wheels are original Centerline bought from Shadow Racing in Reading in late 1980!!

.....keep an eye out in the "For Sale" ads or PM me

Curious as to exactly how you were able to put some miles on it with those 'steering stops' fitted! Straight line only perhaps!

    All very nicely done though.

Bumper sticker - This is an historic vehicle and only has three speeds....... if you don't like this one you sure as hell won't like the others.

Chris - I had to modify the caliper bracket (you can see where the bottom corner is now missing on the 3D model) and shorten the outer wishbone bolt and it now works just fine through full travel.....never would had gotten out of the drive otherwise!

New wheels arrived to fit on the new rear hub/brake setup......still need to fix the paint on the roof , fit longer wheel studs (had to use spacers to get the wheels to fit properly in the arches), put everything back together underneath (fuel tank, handbrake, exhaust....) and bleed the brakes.......

Was a nice day Sunday so took the time to start putting things back together under the back end of the Pop - propshaft refitted, handbrake cable changed (although still needs to be shortened) with new "bracket" on the axle (spot the Allen key I left behind.....) - just the longer wheel studs, brake bleed, fuel tank / pump and exhaust re-install to do.
Underneath a little untidy after 10 years - seemed like a good idea to use such a pale colour all those years ago

Started setting up to drill the rear hubs today to fit longer wheel studs - the knurl on the studs is larger than the original MG studs.
Made a guide pin to ensure hubs were aligned correctly on the rotary table; hub is sitting over a fixture that fits in the morse taper of the table.....
Studs are from Dorman, ordered through Summit Racing as I couldn't find anything of a suitable size from the UK. Hopefully these are OK, should be strong enough for my setup as designed for replacement of original Ford Mercury studs - I think the Pop is a lot lighter and less powerful with the stock'ish RV8.

Braved the weather today to finish the rear hubs.....was cold in the garage even with 2 heaters on......

Pressed out the old studs, drilled out the holes to 13.6mm (for the 13.95mm knurl) and pressed in the new studs - you can see from the pics how much longer the new studs are; only approx 1/2"of extra thread but as we all know an extra 1/2" makes all the difference.....

Finished wheel hubs ready to go back on - just need a quick lick of epoxy on the central stub (rest is zinc plated) plus I'll need to very clearance the back face of the drum to fit over the slightly larger diameter section of studs protruding on the mounting face of the hub.

Hubs with the wheel spacers I'm using - these'll go on the face of the brake drums and are centred on the studs as well as the spigot ring......happy with these

Finished painting the hubs and drums today and got them mounted back on the rear axle - Studs are just the right length, any longer and i wouldn't get the wheels/tyres under the arches

Mustn't forget to torque up the hub nut fully and fit the split pin

Shortened handbrake cable fitted and brakes bled.
New fuel pump and pre-filter fitted as I was having problems with the old pump with it not being run for nearly 12 months!!!......fitted a new filter and fuel pressure regulator too as the old one's internals had fallen apart for some reason - the needle valve and spring would not stay in position (Filter King)??Click image for larger version.
