Looking good Neil. You made a nice job of the roof and pillars.

cheers, it's coming along. today was pretty successful too. first a grind up of all the welds where the outer sill will attach followed by rehanging the doors. that was easier said than done with the car 4 feet in the air on stands. plus the moveable bolt plates in the doors aren't in those boxes so would fall inside the door as they were held up into position. we ended up wedging the doors in place with screwdrivers through the hinges and door then climbing into the car to wiggle the bolts through and fitting the nuts. next a bit of trimming to the sill where it comes up against the 'a' and 'b' pillars before clamping and welding it in place. that's where we're at now, the doors are staying on 'til the arch is done so the welding around the pillar bottoms to the sill will wait 'til after that.
neil.
That looks so much better for working on being waist height mate.

Its nice to see a Mk2 where the doors look in the right place against the bottom of the sill line. Always a good way to tell a good one from a bad one
Great Work

today we started by cleaning up the pigeon sh1t welding from the lower 1/4 and repair panel and cleco-ing it in place. then we shrunk/stretched the arch to fit the curve of the 1/4 and door/sill and cleco-ed it on so we could measure up for the door shut infill. this was cut, folded and shrunk/stretched to fit and tacked in place. last job was welding the inner wheel tub to the outer 1/4 panel. there are some small infills needed before the arch goes on for good but it's nearly there.

Nice work Neil, going to look well tidy when it's finished mate.

thanks Tim, i think it's worth the extra bit of time making sure all the rot's cut out even though it can look scary once it's gone, lol.

yes mate, more than a few times too.
ok, the arch is finally on for good. the lower 1/4 was first to go on and that's done. then with the arch cleco-ed on we made several (numbered and directional, don't want to get them wrong) templates to go from the inner wheel well/body out to meet the arch. these were remade in steel and welded in place. the arch is not tacked all round so only needs final welding along with the inner plates to the arch too. last job for today was to make up more templates, then steel plates which were welded in to close off the bottom of the 'c' pillar/door shut. once the welding's finished it's just a big grind up and it's done, woohoo. well that bit anyway.

that's it, it's done! well that corner anyway, lol. the arch is now all welded inside and out, the underneath will get some seam sealer before whatever finish is applied there but that's not on the job list here. the doors can come off for repair now so they'll be going over the road 'til the body has gone back to rob's house. next and lastly this side, the bottom of the 'a' and 'b' pillars will be fully welded and the 'kick panel' to floor repair. then the wheels go back on so it can be turned round to do the other side and rear end work.
neil.
Well tidy job Neil, he'll be well chuffed mate.

thanks Tim, he should be mate. as always these jobs take longer than expected and are more involved than expected and we do job price not hourly rate so it's down to us if we spend more time making it 'right'. be daft not to though.
neil.
nearly there this side, just the bottom of the 'a' post/kick panel area to do. first job today was remove the doors for the last time while it's here, then fully weld the bottoms of the 'a' and 'b' posts to the new sill and grind down all the welds inc' the spot welds top and bottom of the sill.
lastly see the 2nd pic and look back to the 'same' pic in the previous post, can you spot the difference? it was something that needed to be done but had so far slipped through the net. can you see what it is yet?
neil.
Check that the wheel goes round?
