Only ladders allowed in here, the lawnmower has been out in the garden ever since we moved here, doesn't get used now as we have a man come in once a week who uses all his own stuff! Anyway, this is a workshop not a garage at present, the garage is at the front & is part wheel nut shop! I have several other ladders stored outside this workshop round the back out of sight as they are long ones that definitely wouldn't fit in here!

I know I've been a bit quiet on here, however I have been working on it on & off ever since. But since the beginning of the year (2026!) I have had my arse kicked & two very good mates have given up a day a week to come down & help me get it finished. Having got the engine running really smoothly & sorted out the front alignment, re-fitted the front wings, headlamps & sundry other projects, all was looking good to bring it along to the Fun Run as it's first outing in 17 years!!!! However, it was not to be! I took it out for a test run around a local road but heard a rather worrying noise from the rear end! back home we jacked it up & ran it & decided it was coming from the diff. Regular readers from around 10 years ago(!) will remember a few posts regarding the journey to find the right diff ratio & the difficulties we had. Well, to cut a long story short, we completely removed the rear axle/suspension assembly, stripped it down & I took the diff to a local gearbox/axle repairer garage for them to investigate. They called me in a couple of days later to show me what they thought was the issue, so after discussing it I agreed to a full rebuild with a specially machined spacer to replace the I'd previously bought & many pennies later I got it back. The "working party" was convened this week & we got the whole thing re-assembled & re-fitted back in the car, leaving me to refit the final few parts. However, after fitting the torque reaction bars, shocks & re-connecting the brake discs, I discovered that the handbrake disc could not be fitted with the diff assembly in place! So all our hard work will have to be redone in order to fit that disc!
So the point of this post is to say that unfortunately it won't be making it's first trip out to the IOW & yet again I will be going in my daily & hoping my club mates will be offering me & my wife rides on the trips out! Hint hint!
This was the major issue, that spacer plate is supposed to move the crown wheel further over to meet the pinion, however as the crown wheel sits on top of it, there's no machined edge to retain the crown wheel in a centralised position as the spacer takes up that place. So we've had to have a new spacer plate made up with a further raised edge to locate the crown wheel properly. Let's hope it works!

All reassembled & ready to go back in.
&...it's in! But now will have to be undone & lowered enough to fit the prop disc! DOH!
This is the offending article, sits between the propshaft & the diff drive flange but as it has a recessed hub that fits over the flange, there's just not enough room to squeeze it over & up into the caliper with the pads installed & there's no way to remove the pads as it stands. In fact it's very difficult to bleed the handbrake system too, so we did it without the rear suspension in place & with the caliper removed & hanging vertically so we could get all the air out with the bleed nipple at the top (when in place the nipple is on one side!). And before all you know-it-alls say it, I know it's not strictly legal as a handbrake but this is how it was originally built back in the day & anyway what about electric ones etc. & it is a separate system to the main one! Plus as it's an automatic , I doubt I'll be using it very often, if at all!
So, there you have it, several steps forward & one back. It still won't be completely finished as I'm re-doing the interior & am on the 5th or 6th pair of seats but will be getting them & the rest of the interior re-done in another colour.

I hope it'll be at the Euronats before then, as long as no further glitches appear. I'll be pottering about in it locally to get some miles on it in the meantime.
