seriously though, a 5 speed swap in a mk5 cortina. done several in the past so straightforward enough.
then some work on a v8 minor. what work you may ask? surprisingly some welding, lol.
then we really need to start on my nash, it needs to be useable for next year so not a mad rush. lucky really as no doubt there'll be other 'squeeze in' jobs come along too.

the o/s strut top is done. we even tidied up and put tools away. then i saw the strut braces sat on the scuttle, doh! so a good clean up with the flapwheel grinder and the o/s was back in place but neater, lol. n/s next before sunday as that's when ashley is taking the shell back to rob.

the body welding is DONE!!!! no pics of the n/s strut top repairs, it was like the o/s but predictably....... worse. we had to cut a section out of the inner 'cup' part and replace it as well this side. all done now though. saturday we'll epoxy prime all the bare bits ready for it's trip home, woohoo!!
the cortina's not arriving until the following weekend so there's time for a good sort and tidy in the garage before then.

the cortina 5 speed swap and new clutch job is done. we altered the mk5's stupid plastic ratchet clutch pedal to take a mk3/4 clip and pin so it can use the earlier cable with adjusting nuts at the bellhousing. he's collecting it tomorrow or friday after work, traffic permitting.
zephyr door bottoms next.

we've made a start on the zephyr doors and went for the worst of them (hopefully) to get it out of the way. this door i think wasn't originally on this car as the other 3 adjusted to have nice even gaps all round but this 1 was too tight to the rear door and the sill when given a nice gap around the upper half. we marked the tight spots/areas with a steel rule and a sharpie before removal so first job was to grind the pen marks off to get the shapes required. this obviously split the skin along the bottom and halfway up the rear edge. oh well some extra welding to carefully do but it needs to be right what with the others fitting so well. next was to find a part (any part) of the inner skin bottom that was still complete to make a template from for the folds needed on the repair panels. first one made, the rotten bit cut away and it's clamped in place for welding using my nice shiny new butt weld clamps. that's it for today, not much but a start none the less.

the inner structure is now made and tacked in place, all 8 pieces of it. lots of folding, stretching and trimming but it's all how it should be shape wise. the bottom edge is nice and straight when we sit the 2 foot steel rule along it, i hate freshly painted cars that have wobbly door bottoms

well that's the inside all done on that one. it's turned over now and the rotten corners of the outer skin are cut back to good steel. cad templates are made ready to transfer to steel so that's next. had a look at the other 3 doors and it does indeed look like this was the worst of the lot, phew.
