today we went ahead with cad number 2 in steel. once welded in place we made top and bottom plates, the top going back over the crossmember. last job was a strengthening 'rib' from behind the crossmember up and forward on the top plate. the bolts are only temporary before anyone says anything.

Ah ha, suicide style. I was picturing the spring going within the crossmember, but hey, whats done is kinda easier, looks plenty strong and has good look. Caster built in I assume? Edit. Scratch that, seen the spring mounts are adjustable!

Bumper sticker - This is an historic vehicle and only has three speeds....... if you don't like this one you sure as hell won't like the others.
yes, it's got at least 7-8 degrees of castor as is. as you say it's adjustable anyway so i can add more if i want to. i'd rather have the steering a little heavy when parking, it's a good trade off for a nice stable drive.

Looks tidy Neil

Gotta have fun in my old ageeven if I am a grumpy very Ol git.
we offered up the hairpins today and as the brackets are set on the axle the hairpins get closer together as they go back under the car. usually not an issue for bracketry but on the nash the 'chassis' rails sweep out from under the bulkhead to form the inner sills then in again to go over the rear axle and on to the back of the car. so above the rod ends there is only floorpan. anyway with the aid of some more cad we've designed a tapered 'box' that welds to the inside of the chassis running out across the floor to above the rod end. it's rear corner butts against an outrigger (should that be inrigger, lol) to further strengthen it. one side's made ready to weld in place once the floor and chassis are cleaned up and the other side's marked on the sheet ready to be cut and folded. the plan is that the gearbox crossmember will bolt to the inner ends of the 2 boxes to complete the strength full width.

that's one side done, it took (as usual) much longer to finish than expected. we'll have the other side cut, folded and welded in place over the weekend then fit the suzuki sj steering box.

both sides are now done and the wheels fitted so it could be lowered to the ground for pics. it'll be lower once the engine and box etc are in but i'm happy with it.

it needs nylocs for final assembly but it's so much easier to use plain nuts for mockup. especially if you'll be assembling and disassembling parts several times.

Great to see the Nash in the metal.
Great work.,,
