we finally got round to finishing the wood burner and installing it, we only started it 2 winters ago so not too bad it proper stinks while it's burning the labels and paint from the compressor tank it's made from. the small bottom door is the 'air bleed' and access for removing ashes, it works well. the chimney has a good draw with no smoke in the garage so we're all ready for the colder weather.

Cool, or hot! I spy a tyre machine and what looks like a bubble balancer. I need a local buddy with those!

Bumper sticker - This is an historic vehicle and only has three speeds....... if you don't like this one you sure as hell won't like the others.

yes, i worked at a tyre/exhaust shop years ago and after that not having a tyre machine was like having my hands cut off. so dad bought one and i've had access to do my own since. when he died and i left the workshop it was again very frustrating not only being unable to do my own but worse having to pay a tenner every time i needed a tyre swapped or a puncture mended. the current machine has paid for itself again and again. i bought it off of ebay from a guy who'd used it 3 times for his m'bike tyres. it cost him ?1100 with the bike tyre attachments and i got it for ?450 so a bargain. the bubble balancer was again ebay and under ?50 new. it's good enough for me, the 4 new tyres i fitted to my s-max don't shake at all so.....
i've got some pallets we need to cut up to feed the fire now.

i've just bought a set of 390 fe conrods and pistons off of ebay. the guy has the 390 crankshaft too so i'll get that when i get the pistons/rods. ''why do i want these bits?'' you ask yourselves. well if you remember a short while ago i bought a 360 fe engine, they're basically a 390 block with a shorter stroke 352 crankshaft. so by swapping in these latest purchases i'll have a 390, result.

it occurred to me today that i shouldn't 390 the 360. it's likely the 360 will run fine as is so surely i'd be better off boring one of the 'spare' 352 blocks 50 over to match the stock 390 pistons so i'm starting with nice fresh round bores and new rings. that's give me 2 running fe's, 1 4r70w o/d auto box, 1 fmx auto box and the potential to bolt a (better than the truck) manual box to one too as the 360 came from a manual truck. 1 352 crank is bo11oxed so that would be the 1 to replace with the 390 crank leaving enough 352 parts to build another 352 as well as the 1 we're doing for ash's zephyr.
to sum up then between ash' and me we'd have 2 352's. 1 360 and 1 390. result

Ah! Thats where i can park one of my cars when I start the next project!!
I may live in East London, I may have a number plate that reads "Chopt",
but I do NOT use 6" wheel spacers!

i went to have a look at a mate's new rod project today, a steel model A truck. it's an unfinished project and has nearly twice what he paid for it in parts alone. it has an un usually these days ford engine/box. it's a roller cam 302 with a tremec t5 manual box. he's got a rebuilt c4 auto' so had the t5 for sale. now remember the 360 fe big block i recently bought? that has the 4 speed manual truck box and i mentioned if a cheap 5 speed came up i'd mate it to the 360 for my nash gasser. you know where this is going don't you? as it happens he wants the narrowed exploder 8.8 axle locating properly to the 4 link, both were loosely tacked in place to make the project moveable and it's all skew wiff. it has the 'traditional' transverse leaf for springing, but he has a new pair of coilovers he wants on it so.... anyway i'll be having the rolling chassis brought to my garage so we can get the axle in place, the gearbox mount altered for the c4, rear brakes sorted and spacers for the engine mounts to lift it up an inch-ish as it's typically too low for safe ground clearance. oh, the middle of the gearbox crossmember will be made removeable too as (again) typically it's fixed meaning the engine and box need to come out to get the 'box out which is stupid imo. so for the labour on those jobs i get the new t5 5 speed 'box which i'm happy with and so is he which is good.

looks like i've sold the 318 engine and box to a mate so he can get his (my old) 66 fury back on the road for this summer. i doubt he'll want any of the rebuild/tuning parts i've accumulated but that's fine, i'll buy another non running 318 later when one comes up. it would've been a shame to strip this one as it's so sweet so it's all good really.

we made a start over the lst 2 days with a open to lsd swap. the lsd is now removed from the jensen interceptor axle and the mk2 daimler axle is now draining ready to pop the 1/2 shafts and open diff. the daimler axle is from my mates 't' beach racer come strip toy. on the strip it'd only do peg leg burnouts/launches so lsd was the way to go. we used my big boys puller to remove the flanges/discs from the 1/2 shafts along with a coil spring compressor. oh and of course we warmed the flanges to help too, lol.
