:) OK....We're off then! Here's how it will work.
We will open a new thread for you to post photos of your completed build on March 1st. You will have a week to get them posted. The posting rules will be posted nearer the time but we will be judging based on a max of 4 photos. The new thread will be for competition submissions only....no other posts. Any other posts will be removed from that thread. At the end of the week all entries will be judged having locked the thread.
Obviously people will want to comment on the models, ask questions and discuss progress so that can be done in this thread. If you wish to post progress pics that can also be done here. We will let the previous 'entry' thread fall back now.
We have some superb prizes and they are for a spread of classes so it's worth a go even if you are a novice. Prize details will be announced in the very near future.
Good luck!

Happy house here, had a lovely time last night, no alcohol as no "drinking and driving" this morning with Elmo so busy with his new "project" full concentration wide awake etc, he not even answering his phone, talk about boys and toys.....I am happy as I have control of the TV....
Happy New Year and Happy Rodding to one and all.....
OK, here we go then - this is what I'm starting with:
Revell Goodguys kit (looks like there'll be a lot of bits left over if anyone needs parts!)
Early Olds with 6x2-barrels from the '36 Ford Coupe (looks like that will get stuck with its flathead now). I think the fire extinguisher came from that as well.
'40 Ford wheels (thanks to Scottie), with a pair of slicks I found in another kit.
Bomber seat from the parts bin, although I have no idea what kit it comes from, nor what I had previously used it in.
Chrome front I-beam (looks like a Model A one - I think this was from the Anglia gasser kit.
Moon tank also from the parts bin - a lot of kits, like the '36 Ford Coupe, have extra parts for custom, stock and drag versions.

nice one Andy.............im not gonna post any pics of mine mainly cause i cannot be arsed at the moment but this is what i've got..............
AMT 5 window body made in to a 3 window with rear arches modified to suit.
Chassis from same kit modified to accomodate rear end.
Engine - Blown 426 Hemi with a few extras from other kits.
Rear wheels, axle, ladder bar setup from old funny car kit.
Everything else robbed from other kits or made from scratch.
Front end dependant on whether i can get the setup i want else it will be stockish from the AMT kit.
Cannot work out if i'm outside the rules or not now

I already have a few 3 window kits but not the new Revell re-release.. So can I use one of those instead.
Yes Chris as long as its a 3 window 32 1:25 kit it dont matter even if its not a revell kit, as long as we all build the same make/model/year/scale mate

cheers Dave............but it changed a bit today...........made some motor mounts the other week that were not quite right and the height of the engine wasnt just right and it fouled the (stock) firewall a tad........so the firewall was modified and i thought..........hang on a minute, what if i..............so i chanelled it a few mm (about 4 inches in real life lol) and it looked better so now i've drilled the chassis rails as well and then i realised that the motor foulded the front cross member a tad.........and then and then and then :eek::eek::eek::eek: its so much fun:D..........probably gonna have to cut out the front cross member and reposition it a bit and make it like a real one and then cut up the grill to suit the channel etc etc etc.....far easier than building a real one though:o

Steve set your stance up with a little bit of blue tack on the inside edge/bottom of the wheel...they wont fall over then and use 1p and 2p pieces to set the body up on. Blue tack can be used for alsorts when setting up models
Wiring the dizzy use superglue and do one wire at a time..shouldn;t come apart then. or drill a hole in the dizzy top so that the wires when bunched together are a tight fit and then araldite/superglue them all in together..and leave for a 24 hours to harden properly.

few weeks back i was searching the web for places that sold detailmaster stuff and came across this guy http://www.snchobbies.co.uk/
saw he had some stuff so i was around his neck of the woods i called him and popped round to get a bits. If your into your detailing and the like he's very useful and has got LOADS of stock.
So i pops round and he shows me loads of stuff that he's got and i mentioned the Gibson Engines and he said......"had a delivery this morning, i'll show you". I came away with the original bits i went for and the engine in the pic......was to good to pass up and the prices were VERY good.

erm, who said it's got to be a coupe ?, rules for the modified class I took to be, "chop, channel, section, modify as much as much as you like as long as you start with a Revell 32 3 window and chassis", both can be modified ?, kinda defeats the purpose of a modified class if they all have to look the same....

The more people that build and submit pics the better. The rules are pretty simple really and we are expecting some 'diversity' in the builds to go along with some stock out of the box one's. As Jase says...it's all a bit of fun. :)

I am glad that the build off is of this kit i know its hard to get hold of but as revell have given up making this kit it seems kind of fitting that this may well be the last build off for it in the best UK hot rodding club... very fitting i must say, and i am proud to be doing it with Steve, and the NSRA and all the prize donations from members and none members alike, i thank everyone of you for every part taken in this build off from the bottom of my heart, you will never know how proud you all have made me.

rem funny you should say that, ive got a friend who must have 10,000 models if not more, he has 2 rooms in his house completely full from floor to roof - when you open the door in each room you are faced with a wall of model kits all in boxes - you cant walk into the rooms, there is only room to open the doors, he admits he doesnt even know what he has, hes been buying them for the last 20 years and never opened any of them. says its his retirement fund
im sure revell will realize the error of there ways and re-issue it in a bit!

Well unfortunatly due to starting back at work on Monday and other comittments (ie The Fordson) I can't see me having time to finish the build in time, so it is with regret that I have to drop out of the contest. A big thank you to Martin and Steve for organising it and the generous donations from the prize givers, but most of all to the builders for taking part. I wish you all the best for the build.
And before those who haven't got a kit as yet ask, I have already promised mine to skaterdave unless he has already got one and the spare chassis I have to rem. They will be posted out in the morning.

Could you clarify Si?.
You ask if there's a coil (singular), which suggests you are looking for an ignition coil in the kit, which there isn`t.
If it`s a pair of coilover shocks you are looking for, they are part no. 89 and attached to the same sprue as the frame/engine block/ bonnet top...
You're ahead of me already Pauline!:)
Yeah, but Women can multi task Steve. Paulines probably building the motor with one hand while installing the interior with the other...:D:)
Just as a matter of opinion, what do you think the rear axle in the Revell kit is supposed to be? The carrier is a bit 9" Ford-ish, but the round rear seems more Olds, or something?

you can scratchbuild a coil easy. de-flash and cut a sectin of sprue about 3in long. stretch the sprue over a candle flame, just enought to pull it apart. Cut a section from it, about 2mm for the top of the coil. Add a small 3mm length of plastic tube for the coil body (earbud tubes). Drill the stretched piece for the king lead and paint the whole unit red.
i aint even finished painting me engine block yet!!!!!!! lol

we need to see more progress shots, so here's some pic of mine. I've gone for the more traditional style, junking the small block in favour of a flatty, I've also changed the rear for a banjo and unsplit wish bones. Dropped I beam and split bones for the front. Not shown in the pics is tuck 'n' roll door cards done in tan. Roof chop and steels complete the high boy look.
this is just a mock up and I've still lots to do, but you get the idea.

I have got to tell you guys that I am so impressed with the ideas you have come upwith...If I hadn't commited to doing my fave style then I would have been changing direction every five minutes....
I have to agree that beatermat's rear arches look the dogs danglies and if I had a bigger selection of bits I may have gone down a slightly different road... I started with only a 5 window coupe and you know how hard an original one of those is and all I had was a junk yard dog...

looking good people.
I wasn't going to post any pics untill i had done it, but iv'e made some progress.
I've got the suspension sorted, and i robbed the fire wall from my other 32 body (which is on top of a shortened funny car chassis) so i could keep going.

The rear axel is fixed to the chasiss, and i profiled the front to accept the front cross member and used to putty to mould it to the chassis to make it look better.
Once i cleaned this up, i'll be working on the headers for the injected Y-Block :)
Iv'e also sectioned, and modified the interior panels. They are now lightweight aluminium panels, as well as modifying the chassis, as i've moved the body back on the chassis.

Yep...its true, I was a proffesional model maker... I did arcitectual, prototype and filmprop making... that was until it nearly killed me (long story)... I have said this more than a dozen times on this forum and I have not made any attempt to hide the fact....It is not as if I am trying to screw anyone out of a rightful prize...after all Jane is giving away some of the prizes and I really need another mousemat.
To be honest the last time I picked up a model kit was about 20 years ago when I was hospitalised and bored *poo*less and what I did proffesionaly was as far removed from this as you can get... there are people like Langy that have an amazing eye for detail and to be honest if he was to do a model kit it would have the same kind of detail his life sized cars have....and I wouldn't stand a chance against that...
I am at this point not going to enter my model into the competition...I dont want people to think I have an unfair advantage... I have only done it for a laugh so I will post a few pics up at the end and that is that... I dont want any prizes or even to be concidered for any. I will just finish what I have here, sit back admire my handywork and leave it at that...If anyone wants any advise then just PM me and I will be happy to help.
If your interested or just curious in what I used to do here are a couple of boring pics pulled out of the Elmo history books.

If your interested or just curious in what I used to do here are a couple of boring pics pulled out of the Elmo history books.

Elmo.......bollox to that:mad:.....you submit your PICTURE of your model along with all the rest of us.....no reason whatsoever not to......this was a fun thing with as few rules as possible for anyone to enter regardless.
BUGGER......i just knocked the rollcage over in anger and part of its stuck to my jumper.....so thats a tablecloth and a nice wolly jumper you've ruined now :D:D:D:D:D:D:o:o:o:):):):p:p:p;););)

I very nearly went into modelmaking as a profession. At 18 I was offered two positions, one in prototyping and the other as general model making for advertising etc. I turned them down, on the basis one wanted me to freelance and I needed to earn PAYE dosh, the other I stupidly thought was too far for the money. Career went off in a total other direction into IT, am guted I never took the chance to do something I loved will I had the chance....you live and learn I guess.....anyhoo, Elmo, your in, no backing out now. I'm very much looking forward to seeing how your gonna make your hinges for your panels.

My suggestion is that it is left to the judges whether or not he can enter and which section, I will not let him give up now, he is really enjoying just doing something he loves, I like that I can have the TV Remote, Jason is looking forward to a new jumper and me a tablecloth!

Got a couple of ideas on the boil although space inside is very limited.. not sure if I want external hinges or hidden..boot will be easy though...
In reality, as it was going to be just photos, I was going to cheat and use blue tack...lol

progress is progress but its damn slow.........flitting between job searches, talking to agencies etc etc and trying to get a bit of concentration going is so hard.....................after managing to unstick parts of the roll cage from my jumper last night (Elmos fault:rolleyes:)......i got it all togather and sussed and then had a better think about the "essential" equipment for the interior.......and then realised that there aint much room.....remember sitting in Andy Harveys "Prostalgia" 32 Coupe racecar some years ago and man that was such a tight squeeze....i've got the same problem here.....all the bits are from the spare parts box and i've yet to make the trans tunnel but i'm fairly happy i think with the layout....been trying to find pics of interiors to get some inspiration....old meets new is what i'm looking for....any inspiration out there before i go full on Van Gough and lop of my ear:eek:

Theres not long to go now guys till this is over so anybody else gonna put up some teasing pics to give the rest of us some ideas, just kidding, i wouldnt copy, honest :D Elmo, you must have the patience of a saint to cut out all those panels. I havent put a kit together for years and i,ve found it quite relaxing once i,ve got the kids out of the house for when the air turns blue ! I,ll try and put another pic of mine on soon.

I pulled mine apart today! moved the chassis, changed the arches, trimmed up the interior etc etc etc. It doesnt matter how many times you 'offer up' parts, they still dont fit on glue day!:o
