Well, nice to see this thread is making a bit of a recovery, hopefully due to my earlier moaning, i will carry on now with more from the aviation way show from 1980, & ITS F TYPE VICTOR WAGON TIME, THE YELLOW ONE WAS A SMOKE CITY WHEELER, IT WAS OWNED BY EITHER DENNIS CAREY OR BRIAN KEEN, NOT SURE WHICH. THE PINKY ONE WAS OF COURSE LES HOWLETTS, THIS CAR WENT THROUGH SEVERAL TRANSFORMATIONS IN ITS RODDING LIFE & ALTHOUGH NOT STRICTLY SOUTHEND RELATED I WILL TELL YOU ABOUT THAT IN THE MY NEXT INSTALLMENT.....ENJOY.

now then pin back your lugholes cause that pink wagon 2637 ev has a lot of rodding history, i first saw it at the essex clubs run at the showground in june 79, it was black with mirrored windows & i think appliance 4 spokes, it was owned by roger warren at the time, it was then taken skywards & done in the pink by les howlett & was later changed to black n flames & i think christened hi enuff, then the next time i stumbled across it was at the nats 2006, i believe being owned now by mark (or von?) ashman, now brought completely back to earth & done in baby blue, & as michael caine may say, 'theres not a lot a people know all that', but then again theres probably a lot that do......

As an addition, i remember one running around at the Essex nats a few years back, cant find any pics though, it was normal ride height, & everything was bright orange, this may also have been it?? after it had been brought back down to earth & before it became baby blue, anyone know?

p.s borrowed a couple of these pictures from other sites, hope they dont mind, all in a good cause...

Anyway heres some more pics of cars mentioned on here-
Steve Dodds Stang-no hood scoop, not long been tubbed

Jon Webster Minor "hot Lemon" with Geoff Owen Roll cage

Bob Mortan talking to some Street Machine magazine staff
Reliant had Rover V8,and there Land Rover archs on there

When i first see this at the Weir it was in grey primer

This radical Capri was seen in about three differant places (as in photo) behind a workshop off the A127(87?),in a layby at a housing estate in Basildon and then finally ending up at Lea Skate Park "Rampage" about 2002? .The Capri had a V6 motor and Jag IRS and the rear bodywork had been altered more like a truck.Anybody remember it back in its day or have any pics

yes there was a saloon f type there, must have been good having them all fly past, a good memory, the mustang was owned by smoke city wheeler member rob james, this was a reincarnation of night fever which was centrespread in cc august 77, WONDER WHERE THAT IS NOW?.

The orange FA wagon you're talking about isn't Sweet FA, it was built by John Prior, had a Ford V4 & XR2 alloys, he owned Sweet FA at the same time though.
Unlike sex, I have never paid for a cable tie

Heres my last pics from the 1980 show at Aviation way, the T bucket was Brian Kirbys the Prisoner, this started out as the Church brothers T from the early 70s & was one of the best around at the time, & was still one of the best around when this piccy was took!!, there are rumours of it being locked up in a garage down Southend way now, looking a little sad??, the green Capri RST 52 was Robert Torrs Running Wild & the red model Y was Dave Haskells , the Granny mural was on a Mk1 Granada wagon owned by Noal Harrris from the LA Roadsters.

Having been around for a while but new to the forum I have been looking through the history files, and have come across a few bits on this thread I can add to.

On page 4,item no 40 (by SJB) 4th pic down, thats me preparing to unload my rail for the Airport show, in the background is my Squire towcar. I don't look a day older today!

On pg 7, item 66 , we're into the Chelmsford film shows which I was closely involved with organising, and Mopar has posted some hand drawn adverts for these evenings. These were each done by different club members, and photocopied at Americar for distributing. I know the last one was drawn by me, and the first if memory serves was done by Keith Harvie, and the other may have been done by Robin (.?.) but I cannot be sure.

On pg 11, item 103, in the 4th photo, that Corsair with an Eastern cruisers sticker was mine, stock exterior, breathed on motor; a number of club members had been involved with Curtis Clarks two films, and we received invites to the premier of Cruising. Roger Sinclair, my wife Lorraine(who was 8 months pregnant) and I set off for the premier, and at a rate of knots in the outside lane of the A12 the engine decided to let go, sending shrapnel through the bonnet. It was tipping with rain, miles from anywhere, and Roger took one look at Lorraine and boldly announced he would go for help. Needless to say we didn't make the filmshow...
